Iran Builds Air, Coast Command-and-Control Defense Systems

Iran announced on Monday that it has managed to build air and coast command-and-control defense systems following its great tactical and strategic achievements, specially in the production of defensive tools and equipment.

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi declared the success during a ceremony to inaugurate 36 electronic and communications projects of the ministry on the occasion of the beginning of the 'Ten-Day Dawn' ceremonies marking the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979.

Speaking to reporters, Vahidi reiterated that the variety and extensiveness of the Defense Ministry's electronic productions at the tactical and strategic levels show Iran's progress in the field.

"The design and manufacturing of secure and stable networks of electronic war control and command, border surveillance control and command, air and coast defense systems control and command are some samples of this capability," he added.

Vahidi also asserted that Iran has reached self-sufficiency in launching complicated electronic, optic and communications technology, adding that the same trend of development is in process in more sensitive technologies, including space systems which use highly sophisticated electronic devices.

Tehran launched an arms development program during the 1980-88 Iraqi imposed war on Iran, to compensate for a US weapons embargo. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, missiles and fighter planes.

Yet, Iranian officials have always stressed that the country's military and arms programs serve defensive purposes and should not be perceived as a threat to any other country.
