RawalpindiInter cousin marriages are one of the cause of Thalassaemia, it is a crubale not terrible disease, Lt General (R) Moin Ud Di n Haider President of Pakistan Thalassemia Federation said. He was addressing 8th National Thalassemia conference held at RIPHAH International University on Al Mizan campus 274 Pesharwar road here on Saturday.
Aomg others, renowned scientist Dr Inam ur Rehman, Maj.General (R) Maqssod Anwar chairman organizing committee, Dr Yasmeen Rashid Secretary General Thalassaemia Federation of Pakistan, Dr.Anees Ahmed, Vice Chancellor RIPHAH International University.
Addressing on the occasion, Moin ud Din Haider said that a law should be enacted to make compulsory for male and female to get tested against Thalassemia before marriage particularly when it is arranged among cousins to determine if both no one of them is carrier of Thalassemia of minor.It is inherited disease and curable. If we succeed in controlling the speading of this disease the quality of life in Pakistan will be improved, he added.
He added that federation is working day and night to see Pakistan a Thalassemia free country.
He appreciated the role of Pakistan Bait ul Mal (PBM) and the government for taking steps to prevent the spread of Thalassemia and help the patients to become useful citizens.
The Vice Chancellor RIPHAH International University Professor Dr Anis Ahmad In his key note speech threw light on the Islamic and Shariah aspect of the preventive measures to avoid the disease.
He stated that Shariah is not a complicated thing that it is very simple to follow for better health and good life. Quran and Shariah have given clear cut guidance for prevention of diseases and lead a healthy life.It is for whole the humanity for the betterment of mankind, he added.
He stressed to make use of modern technology such as telemedicine for dignosis and treatment of Thalassemia.He also suggested to form a youth force to work creating awareness about Thalassemia and help patients for their treatment.It should also be made a part of curriculum at college and university level so that our youth are aware of the disease and its casues.
The general Secretary of Thalassemia Federation Dr.Yasmin Raashid in her address spoke about the clinical preventive measures to eradicate the Thalassemia from the society.She said that families having Thalaseemia history should get screening of their children before marriages.
She highlighted the steps being taken by the Thalassemia Federation to help patients to get treatment and become a normal citizens of the country.
Renowned scientist Dr Inam ur Rehman who presided over the inaugural ceremony of the conference congratulated RIPHAH International University and Thalassemia Federation for organisng the conference and hoped its recommendations will help in eliminating Thalassemia from Pakistan. He said following of religion and wholeheartedly serving the ailing humanity are the major source of peaceful and successful life of the people.
The Thalassemia Federation awarded five gold medals to those Thalasssemia Patients who were treated and now leading a successfull life.they were selected from among a number of Thalassemia patients who are successfully treated and living as a normal citizens.APP
