Intelligence Bureau warns of possible terror attack on Kiren Rijiju | Zee News

New Delhi: The Intelligence Bureau (IB) on Wednesday issued an alert stating that a possible terror attack could take place against Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju.

As per the IB alerts, North-East militants are likely planning to carry out an attack on Rijiju.

After a possible threat assessment from the Intelligence Bureau, Rijiju's security has been enhanced. The minister is currently having Z-category security.

The development comes in the backdrop of Indian Army's operation to strike at hideouts of Northeast militants along the border with Myanmar.

The Indian Army operation was in retaliation to the June 4 ambush by Northeast militants in Manipur's Chandel district in which 18 soldiers of 6 Dogra Regiment were killed.

India and Myanmar had inked an MoU on border cooperation on May 10, 2014, which provides a framework for security cooperation and exchange of information between the security agencies of the two countries.

A key provision is that of conduct of coordinated patrols on their respective sides of the international border and the maritime boundary by the armed forces of the two countries.

Both sides agreed to exchange information in the fight against insurgency, arms smuggling and drug, human and wildlife trafficking, and to take steps to prevent illegal cross-border activities, according to the MoU.

Highest category Z-plus security cover to Kiren Rijiju | Zee News

New Delhi: The security cover of Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju has been upgraded to Z-plus by the government following a threat from a number of militant groups of the northeast.

Rijiju till now had 'Z' category cover provided by the elite commando unit of paramilitary CISF across India.

The decision has been taken after an intensive review of his security cover by intelligence agencies.

A threat to Rijiju is perceived from a host of insurgent groups for his vocal statements against insurgency, Muslim fundamentalists, stepped-up offensive against militants and the ministerial position held by him, official sources said.

Requisites of security arrangements to be made for a Z-plus protectee are contained in the 'Yellow Book' which are being implemented, the sources said.

A recent assessment indicates a severe threat to Rijiju's life from a newly-formed conglomerate called United National Liberation front of West and South-East Asia comprising NSCN-K, ULFA and other rebel groups.

"Keeping in view the threat quotient of Rijiju, it is imperative that the security arrangements made for him is robust and in tune with the guidelines contained in the Yellow Book," an official order said.

The CISF is therefore advised to review and recalibrate security arrangements made for him so as to plug loopholes, if any, in his security cover, the order said.

Political leaders like LK Advani and Amit Shah and NSA Ajit Doval are being accorded this top category security.
