I spent a few minutes interviewing Dr Avinash Chander, director of India's Agni missile programme (and Director, Advanced Systems Laboratory) on Wednesday evening. He is the country's most valuable rocket scientist today, but you wouldn't know it. Unassuming, quiet and supremely focused on his task, he's a man who has spent the last three years giving the Indian government options that it has never had before. And with the Agni-III strategic missile completing its testing stage and now ready for operational induction with India's Strategic Forces Command, it's time for the next big thing.

At this time next year, India will begin testing its longest range weapon yet, the newest in its Agni family of strategic ballistic missiles, named the Agni-V. According to DRDO chief Dr VK Saraswat, the country's seniormost weapon scientist, "The Agni-V has moved out of the drawing board. We have crossed the metal cutting stage. We are now testing and evaluating subsystems and plan to conduct a first flight trial within a year."

According to Dr Chander, the Agni-V will be 22-metres long and approximately 1-ton heavier than the Agni-III. The Agni-V's navigation system and warhead will be identical to the Agni-III, as will a great deal of subsystems, aggregates and electronics. The team has stated that 60 per cent of the first missile system is complete, while the remainder involves the crucial third stage of the missile. Dr Chander revealed today that the challenges that lied ahead include changes in the payload structure, introduction of extra heating and slight changes to the re-entry mechanism. The Agni-V will also be the first Indian missile with a composite rocket motor as opposed to a metallic one.

"The problems we had with previous tests of the Agni-2 and Agni-III were not design defects but problems with quality assurance. We have rectified those problems and don't foresee any such hurdles on the Agni-V," Dr Chander said.

Clarifying that India did NOT have an independent intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) programme, DRDO chief Dr Saraswat said, "The country's requirement right now is a missile with a range in the region of 5,000-km-plus. A missile with a range beyond this has not been identified as necessary for our strategic programme. However, we have the capability to build longer range missiles if the country calls upon us to do so. The building blocks are already in place."

Cocking a snook at the Chinese ballistic missile programme, Dr Chander told me, "I can say that our technology is maturer than theirs. And of course, there is no comparison at all with Pakistan. We are technologically way ahead of them. Of course, the Agni is our very own missile, not borrowed technology."

Do members have any supporting evidence for this statement??

haha what a joke

can india launch a missile which has a range of more than10000km?

can india own the technology of KKV(kinetic kill vehicle)?

can india own the technology of MKV?

in fact, indis's AⅢ is so backward that it weighs more than 55 tons while only have a range of 3000 km

India cant make a CBM, and after decade and russian help finally came up with brahmos?while pakistan is making effective CBMs like raad, babur and there versions. An chinese hell they are making everythin.
Lol the thread is nothin but a troll and wet dream of an old brain.

Oh yeah, i have supporting evidence for your BS from a blog,

India can't match China's military force: Navy Chief

New Delhi: Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Sureesh Mehta has set off a storm by saying India cannot match China military force. Is it a warning from India's military that the government needs to hear?

"In military terms, both conventional and non-conventional, we neither have the capability nor the intention to match China force for force," said Admiral Sureesh Mehta.

For a nuclear-armed military representing the interests of a billion-plus people, the lack of confidence is quite striking. India's military leadership has made a stunning confession that New Delhi doesn't have the stomach for a fight, if push came to shove on the disputed Sino-Indian boundary.

"Whether in terms of GDP, defence spend or any other parameter, the gap between the two is too wide to bridge and is getting wider by the day," he said.

Is Mehta expressing frustration at the slow pace of India's military modernisation? While India spends about $30 billion annually on defence, China spends at least thrice as much, although some estimates go up to $ 200 billion.

Its military is twice as large as India and its nuclear arsenal far well proven.

Conclusion=Typical brainwashed Indians wet dream.

Here is a news article.....

India senior to China in missile programme

NEW DELHI: Planning to test its indigenous Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) shield in near future, India today said its programme was "senior" to the Chinese one.

"This is one area where we are senior to China," DRDO Chief V K Saraswat said when asked to compare Indian BMD programme with China, which carried out its first test-firing on January 14.
He was addressing a press conference on Agni-III missile at DRDO headquarters.

Asked why Pakistan never reported any failures in its missile test programme, Saraswat said, "That is the difference between the democratic India and Pakistan."
He said that even when the US, with its large technological base, started testing its BMD, seven out of 14 tests had failed consecutively.

The DRDO Chief said that though China had tested its BMD capabilities just recently, India knew about it after they carried out the A-SAT test in 2007 and prior to it, the Chinese missile programme was kept under the wraps.

He said the Indian programme had started in 2006 and had 60-70 per cent indigenous content in it.

Saraswat said Indian BMD development programme would have two phases.

"In the first phase, which goes upto 2,000 km range, we will carry out exo-atmospheric, endo-atmospheric and high altitude interceptions and in the second phase, will take care of targets beyond 5,000 km range."

On the dates of test of the BMD shield, he said it was expected to be carried out within this month.

Commenting on the proposed 800-km range Nirbhay cruise missile, the DRDO chief said the missile was a technology demonstration of a cruise missile.

"The development of the system is on. We have completed the propulsion system's design. But we have not integrated it.
Once we reach the integration stage, we will show it you," he said.

?India senior to China in missile programme?

But then again...since its India ....and India should be poor ...and India should have less Toilets.....and India ....blah ...blah...blah.... There is no chance in Hell that India can be good at anything.......The great Chinese Logic.

Ok since you posting this in every thread let me ask you a simple question..do you really think that China has a chance on taking on Indian navy in Indian Ocean under the present capability???Does China can play a superior role in Indian Ocean at this stage than India ??

Apart from your BS, is there any news article or any source of information that you can use to counter the claim made by Indian Scientist in the news item posted above.

Is there anything in Chinese media or another media that says China Missile program is ahead to Indian Missile program.

If no....then Buzz off....

I hate to argue base on BS, at least be civilize enough to provide

proof not some pure speculations;

China Trying to Destablize India

India-China Comparison on Military Strength "foolhardy" Says Naval Chief.

"If you wish to be secure on land, you should have supremacy on the sea", said Jawaharlal Nehru, the architect of modern India. It was China who was listening to Nehru, rather than India and they built a Navy far superior to any other power in the Indian ocean. Incidentally, during his last days in 1962, China handed him a humiliating defeat in a war between unequals in NEFA and Tibet. At that time, India was no match for the mighty Chinese army. This was no secret. :smitten::pakistan::china:

P.S. Show me "FACTS" not "TRASH" please

Today, India's Naval Chief Mehtha, sounded a real warning. He said it is foolhardy to say India is equal to China militarily. India is no match for China whether it is airforce, navy or army. China is four times bigger than India. The Navy Chief said India's weakest link is the Indian navy. He said India is surrounded by China. It has six bases in the Indian Ocean, one in Chittagong, one in Yangon, Coco Island in Burma, Trincomalee in Srilanka and one in Waga in Pakistan, to India's none.

Navy Chief Mehtha, who is leaving office in two weeks, spoke his mind about India's chances of fighting a war with China. Chinese presence in the Indian Ocean is a reality with six bases to support them. The recent visit of Chinese naval ships to Cochin port, was a clear indication that they are everywhere in the Indian ocean. The Indian navy on the other hand was hardly seen in Chinese waters in the recent past.

Comparisons between India and China would reveal that India is nowhere near China's strength. China has 68 submarines to India's 16, none of them being nuclear. China has 56 airforce squadrons to India's 12. China has 4 million troops to India's 1.5 million troops. China has 14000 Artillery guns to India's 4000. These are only some examples to show that India is no match for China.
China is jealous of India's economic growth and a real challenge to its supremacy in Asia. It is in China's interest that it is planning to destabilise India. The recent article of Dragon's plan to split India in 26 created a furore in political circles. Whether it was real or imaginary, the writing is clearly on the wall, that China is harbouring extra-territorial ambitions.

China wants to establish its supremacy in the Indian ocean. With the waters unapproachable to US, UK and France, with no presence of their naval battleships, nor Russia. China rules supreme in the region. India is virtually surrounded by China. The prophecy coming from none other than India's Naval Chief, is that one day, China will crush India militarily, if no action is taken to build up in the Indian ocean.

There is no doubt that both India and China are nuclear countries. When a war breaks out, it would be catastrophic for either to use nuclear weapons. China has a vast mass of land and population, which is almost two times the size of India. Nuclear war is therefore ruled out.

It requires political wisdom to see reality. The Navy Chief was candid enough to reveal the truth to the establishment that they should not sleep over the matter. The threat from China is real and it is coming. There is a talk of China attacking India in 2012, which is not far off. The question is whether India will be prepared.

Here is a similar news Appearing in China Media:

India is ahead of Chinese missile programme, says DRDO chief
China National News

Wednesday 10th February, 2010

New Delhi, Feb 10 : Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Director V.K. Saraswat on Wednesday said that India's anti-ballistic missile defence programme is ahead of China's programme.

Addressing media here, Saraswat said: "This is one area we are ahead of the Chinese."

He announced that Sunday's test of the Agni- III missile would clear the decks for the induction of the missile into the services.

The test, carried out by Strategic Forces Command sets the stage for the induction of nuclear-tipped missile.

China had only one missile in the 2500-km category, the DF-21 and was now focused only on building intercontinental range missiles (ICBMs) of the DF-31 and DF-41 in the 6000- 10,000 km range.

"But our accuracies are better than the Chinese missiles," Dr Saraswat said.

He, however, declined to mention the Circular Error Probability or CEP of the Agni-III

China, in January 2007, had displayed its anti-ballistic missile capabilities while knocking out a disused satellite in space. This was the world's first declared A-SAT test.

Earlier in January, the Chinese declared that they had successfully tested a ground-based mid-range anti ballistic missile.

"China only had the building blocks for an ATBM," Saraswat said.

"We started our ATBM programme in 1999 and in terms of capabilities, we are way ahead of them," he added.

Saraswat said India had perfected the building blocks for an A-SAT weapon but there were no plans to field any such system.

Yes, sure with one damn no-name so-called scientist claim, and i need

to prove you wrong while the whole world agreed China's missiles

already deployed and well proven to your so-called imaginated

programs in the unknown future, are you nuts ?
