India Fighter Jets To Launch Supersonic Cruise Missiles: Report
AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE
Tue, 18 Apr 2006, 02:03

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has begun work to arm its frontline fighter jets with supersonic cruise missiles being developed jointly with Russia, a report said April 17.

”We need only small changes to be made,” Sivathanu Pillai, chief executive of the Indian-Russian firm BrahMos Aerospace told the Press Trust of India (PTI).

”But it will be a giant leap because if we deploy aircraft with BrahMos missiles, we would be the first country to deploy supersonic airborne missiles,” Pillai was quoted as saying.

Pillai said the modifications were being carried out for India’s Russian-built Sukhoi-30 multi-role jet fighters.

”Already the needful modifications are being worked simultaneously at BrahMos Aerospace, IAF and Hindustan Aeronautics,” he said but did not give a date for when the smaller cruise missiles would be fitted to the Sukhois.

India has already fitted some of its warships with 300-kilometer (186-mile) BrahMos missiles and is currently working on a version for its land forces.

India and its largest military supplier, Russia, are also trying to sell the supersonic missile in Asian arms markets.

This should give India hell of an edge. If IN gets hands on it, then this is one more danger. Su-30MKI armed with Brahmose will become a beast!

I am sure Pakistan is working on the air to ground version of Babur cruise missile and F-16s, J-10, and JF-17s will be able to carry it.

As of now i think only A-5s and F-16s can carry it. Babur cruise missile can be miniturized to fit under the fuselage.

The IN has already inducted the missile according to some media reports.

The aspect that confuses me about the A2G version of the Babur is the launching style - goes upwards like the Tomahawk. So how does one fire this type of missile from an AC?

The A to G version of Babur is not developed yet. Currently Pakistan is working on the modification that will enable the missile to be launched from its F16s, JF-17s, Mirages and A5 air platforms and naval platform such as agosta 90B and its Tariq class frigates.

Babur will not be part of F16, F7 or Fc1... Nor J10. Most probably rose 2/3 Mirages.

Adding Brahmos to MKI doesn't make Brahmos better. It is high speed and short range. With a plane that shines on every radar it shouldn't be a big problem to evade it. Do know that Brahmos has active guidance. Radar... And we can make that blind. One cannot do the same with Babur (optical and ...).

If MKI is flying above ocean/land than there is enough time to detect it and counter it. Why else would they buy Erieye...

Add to that... Will India risk MKI for a2g? Say 50% will be used for that. At the same several hundred Baburs with bio/chem/nuclear tips could be running at 800 km/h and 27 feet from all directions towards India. Then the Indians will remember that tehir only plane to stop small percentage of Babur was MKI....

I highly doubt that a nation makes the same mistake that Hitler did... Turning your best fighter into a2g...

So india is actually launching a sea skimming yakhont from an aircraft?:cheesy:

Why would india launch Bramouse from an SU30MKI? why doesnt the USAF launch tomahawks from a F-18 super hornet?

It makes it more versatile.

If the Brahmos is on a Su-MKI then its for a land target. So how does move a land target?
Do know that Brahmos has active guidance. Radar... And we can make that blind. One cannot do the same with Babur (optical and ...).
You are assuming that Indians know nothing of EW.
If MKI is flying above ocean/land than there is enough time to detect it and counter it.
Wrong assumption, if the Su-MKI flying at 50 meters above sea level.
Counter it with what weapon in the current investory?
Add to that... Will India risk MKI for a2g? Say 50% will be used for that.
You are only assuming, and forgetting the stage of battle at which these weapons will be used.
At the same several hundred Baburs with bio/chem/nuclear tips could be running at 800 km/h and 27 feet from all directions towards India.
Wow, hundreds....and that too nuclear tipped. Come again.
Then the Indians will remember that tehir only plane to stop small percentage of Babur was MKI....
I can't say about land targets but the IN close defence systems can take on the subsonic Babur.

I highly doubt that a nation makes the same mistake that Hitler did... Turning your best fighter into a2g...
Out of context on this day and time.

On the Kashin Class Destroyers and not on AC's.

What might be the Indian intentions to buy Phalcon AWACS?

As far as Biological and chemical weapons are concerned both India-Pakistan have signed a treaty not to purchase/develop and use such weapons in war or in peacetime.

Pakistan using these weapons would create a diplomatic trouble for itself from all over the world.

As far as nukes are concerned are you saying that Pakistan is going to launch nuke tipped Baburs from all directions towards India?

How it will help? range of Babur not even cover half the India.

Aren't you considering counter attack?

Why would india launch Bramouse from an SU30MKI? why doesnt the USAF launch tomahawks from a F-18 super hornet?

The Tomahawk is an all-weather submarine or ship-launched land-attack cruise missile.

BRAHMOS is a Supersonic Cruise Missile that can be launched from submarine, ship, aircraft and land based Mobile Autonomous Launchers (MAL). The missile is launched from a Transport-Launch Canister (TLC), which also acts as storage and transportation container. Primarily BRAHMOS is an anti-ship missile. It has the capability to engage land based targets also. The missile can be launched either in vertical or inclined position and will cover 360 degrees.

India making alterations in Sukhoi aircraft to carry BrahMos

India-Sukhoi-Brahmos

In-Depth Coverage
Indian Air Force was making minor alterations in its Sukhoi aircraft for carrying the indigenous supersonic cruise missile 'BrahMos' and the task would be completed between 2007 and 2008.

The needful modifications for the mission were already being worked simultaneously in BrahMos Aerospace Ltd, Indian Air Force (AF) and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), said a Doordarshan (Indian government news channel) report from Tamil Nadi quoting A Sivathanu Pillai, chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director (MD), BrahMos Aerospace.
He said that only small changes had to be made, but 'it will be a giant leap because if we deploy aircraft with BrahMos missiles, we will be the first country to deploy supersonic airborne missiles'.
The process of installing vertical type missiles in the Indian naval ships, selected by the Navy, had commenced, he said.
Asked whether there were any plans to export BrahMos missiles, Pillai said many foreign countries were showing interest in buying the missiles, however, since both Russia and India are involved in the development of the missile, it is a sensitive issue.
He added that any export could be done only after discussions with Russia and 'it will take time for negotiation'.

The image shows MKI with 4 pads for brahmos.....is that possible i thought they were only planning to have underthe belly and remaining for air to air armaments.

Wait n Watch

Now we have to wait and everywhere else we have to provide you real time evidence... Miro. Quantity is not intresting. It is about quality. Here they transform an agile (TVC) fighter into delivering system with high speed a2g missiles. Hitler did the same... It was a bad move. So like LCA, Druc or Arjun this sovjet plane has no sovjet missiles... Stupid.
