ISLAMABAD - India has contacted Pakistan through the backchannels to stop Kashmir campaign at the international level as it was a ‘bilateral’ issue, The Nation learnt.

Pakistan has been campaigning against the excesses in Held Kashmir by the occupant forces after the unending bloodshed that started after the murder of Hizbul Mujahideen Burhan Wani a few days earlier.

While the Foreign Ministry remained in contact with the world powers and the United Nations, the Cabinet decided to observe May 19 as ‘black day’ and call a joint session of the Parliament to discuss the situation.

The Opposition parties in the meantime have criticised the govt for ignoring the Kashmir issue, accusing Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of remaining committed to personal friendship with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.

A senior official at the Foreign Ministry told The Nation, that the recent campaign by Pakistan had irked India and they had contacted Islamabad through the backchannels to stop the issue from going global.

“They insist the issue is bilateral and must be discussed between the two countries. We agree this is a bilateral issue but we don’t want the world to be a silent spectator. The issue will be resolved if India is pressurised. Otherwise we have been waiting for more than half a century,” he added.

He said the backchannel contacts were aimed at defusing the tension and maintaining the status quo until an acceptable solution is found.

Another official said Pakistan had asked India to stop the brutalities in Kashmir if it was serious in talks on the issue. “We cannot have talks amid this bloodshed. They should stop it first,” he said. The official said India was under pressure despite the fact that the United States was showing tilt towards New Delhi.

“There is nobody who would support their State-sponsored terror in the held territory. They are really under pressure,” he added.

International relations expert Dr Pervez Iqbal Cheema said that India was denying fundamental rights of Kashmiri people to determine their own future since long.

“India does not come on negotiation table and it has crossed all limits in causing violence against Kashmiri people. Now, educated youth is taking part in freedom movement in Kashmir, which is a good sign,” he added.

Cheema said that the UN was being controlled and camouflaged by big powers and European countries and they do not support Kashmir cause. “Nevertheless, Russia and China are supportive of Kashmiri people’s struggle for independence. America considers Kashmir issue as internal matter of India and denies any involvement for that matter. Human rights organizations are not playing their part in resolution of Kashmir issue,” he said.

Defence analyst Air Marshal Masood Akhtar (Retd) said that Kashmiri people had to increase pace of the freedom movement and diplomatic front has to be used more efficiently.

“Young Kashmir people are being killed and major powers are silent because of their vested interests associated with India. Pakistan must come up with renewed commitment to highlight Kashmir issue on global forums,” he said.

Meanwhile, PPP leader Senator Rehman Malik yesterday wrote a letter to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights against recent and ongoing killings of innocent people by Indian Forces in Kashmir and asked him to move against Indian government and take necessary actions under the charter of the UN.

In his letter Rehman Malik said that PPP chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had also taken a very serious notice of the killing of Kashmiri people by Indian forces.

He wrote: “The Indian forces have butchered more than 45 people and more than 300 have been seriously injured in this barbarism since Friday, July 8th, 2016 and it is still continued”.

He said it was very disappointing to note that the world had chosen to ignore these sheer violations of human rights just to oblige the India.

Expressing his displeasure over the silence of International Human Rights Organisations, Senator Malik wrote to the UNHCR that no action has been taken by international human rights organizations whereas there should have been a visit by UN Human Rights Commission to investigate these utter and sheer violations of human rights.

“This recent sheer violation of human rights looks to be going unnoticed this time too like in past major incidents of human rights violation in Indian Held Kashmir by Indian Forces; why is it being overlooked by International Human Rights bodies including the UN Human Rights Commission,” he added.

Senator Rehman Malik wrote the people of Kashmir were simply asking for their right of self-determination referring to the United Nations Security Council Resolution 47, adopted on April 21, 1948 which was passed in their favour.

He said that the people of Kashmir had gathered to tribute to their leader Burhan Wani who was earlier killed by the Indian Army in custody when they were attacked by the forces. “Such killings of innocent people have become continuous routine by Indian forces against the oppressed people of Kashmir which proves that Indian forces have no value for human rights and human lives,” he said.

Malik said it was not for first time but the same had happened back in 2010 in which more than 120 innocent young Kashimiris were killed by Indian Army but unfortunately nobody was held responsible for that brutality due to the lack of interest of International Human Rights Organisation in that painful tragedy.

The Senator expressed his hope and has appealed the UNHCR to appoint a commission to investigate these killings and the matter should also be raised at his level in the UN General Assembly with the proposed resolution asking the Indian government to stop forthwith this brutality in Held Kashmir.

This is not stopping, this is called pleading. Please correct the thread title.

Cheema said that the UN was being controlled and camouflagPakistaed by big powers and European countries and they do not support Kashmir cause. “Nevertheless, Russia and China are supportive of Kashmiri people’s struggle for independence. America considers Kashmir issue as internal matter of India and denies any involvement for that matter. Human rights organizations are not playing their part in resolution of Kashmir issue,” he said.

This Cheema chap surely seems to consider Pakistan public to be very gullible.
