SEOUL, July 18 (Yonhap) -- Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. on Thursday unveiled the South Korean Navy's second 2,300-ton frigate with improved warfare capabilities against North Korea.

A launching ceremony took place at Hyundai Heavy's shipyard in the southeastern city of Ulsan, attended by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Navy chief and other senior officials.

The locally made frigate is capable of carrying maritime operations helicopters and equipped with advanced radar system, guns, sonar system as well as anti-aircraft and anti-ship missiles, the Navy said. It has a maximum speed of 30 knots (55.6 kilometers/hour) and accommodates up to 120 personnel.

The naval ship was named after Gyeonggi Province that surrounds the capital Seoul and the western port city of Incheon, which has a strategic importance for defense. The first frigate named Incheon was launched in January.

The Gyeonggi will be delivered to the Navy next year and deployed for operation in 2015, officials said.
About 20 frigates will be built to replace the country's aging patrol combat corvettes and escort ships by 2020, the Navy said.

Does this 2,000ton ship install 2x gas turbines inside? why its chimney looks bigger and longer than others ?

What's anti-aircraft missile ? I didn't find missile launcher, it's mean the Sea-RAM ?

Nope.
FFX using plalanx 1B and RIM-116 for CIWS. The ship has a AESA radar.

Good choice for VPN if US stop arms embargo on Vietnam :cuckoo:

That ship no AESA radar, where did u find it? and RIM-116 'RAM' is a close point-to-point air-defense system, fire range only 9km. It's better to shoot down coming missile not enemy's fighter.

This kind of light warship in China, we call it corvette. China 056class corvette as the same firepower as FFX-I frigate, well FFX-I can carry a navy helicopter but 056 only can carry a drone.

There are two AESA multifunctional radar programs underway using dual-R/F multibeam technology at two local defense contractors for frigate and destroyer class ships. It's been mentioned a few times before but the surveillance radar of FFX-I already applies AESA technology. We are going to add fire control functionality and 360 degree search-and-track capability to this radar to make a mast system that is fully multifuntional, like the mast-installed APAR found on European destroyers (which is literally an acronym of Active Phased Array Radar).

First batch still using SMART-S, maybe. But Second batch will using their domestic AESA.

Not same, Incheon class can carry 2x 4 canister for Land attack and AShM mission. With bigger size, she can carry more supply for Helicopter operation, endurane...

For chimney, look at the pic, you can understand.

Do you think Smart-S Mk2 search radar is a AESA radar?

I had to tell you that its not a good choice for you as a Tailored warship for vs north Korean People's Navy.

It have not powerful anti-ship ,anti-air and anti-sub capability ,the only superiority is cruise missiles, but Long-range cruise missiles cant to Export.

AESA + RIM-116 'RAM' :omghaha:
again,Long-range cruise missiles cant to Export.

Land attack missile can export. Russian export Klub-S missile for India and now, Vietnam. The range has limited in 300km.

Hyundai Heavy Industries also builds http://naval.hhi.co.kr/ German submarines (under license), KDX-III destroyers (10,000+ tonnes displacement, 128 cell VLS), 5,500+ tonnes displacement 'stealth' destroyer, and corvettes.

The multifunction radar, AAW missiles, are all foreign. Maybe, some components like LACM are domestic designs.

Overall, Korea is still heavily reliant on Western technology for its critical systems.

ROK is more than capable of making its own anti-ship missile SSM-700k, and 1000+km long range cruise missile Hyunmoo III.

FFX-I frigate pix
Total cost(including foreign weapons, engine and radar system) 250million U.S dollar
Domestic shipbody by Korea Hyundai cost 110million U.S dollar.

300km is Limit range, >300KM cant export

I say that ROK cant sell it to viet
