Going ‘miskeen’ in Saudi Arabia

Arab use this word all the time with Arabs or non-Arabs. It means "a poor person that should be helped". So, it's actually not an insult. It's an Islamic term:
Miskeen:
A person is described as being miskeen if they are poor & needy, in need of certain necessities to stop them from going hungry and/or perishing.
Prophet SAWS: Allah, make me amongst the miskeen…

The Prophet SAWS said, ‘O Allah, have me live like miskinan (like a poor person) and have me die miskinan and gather me [in the Hereafter] in the company of the miskin. [Ibn Majah].

Regarding what is meant by al-maskanah, Ibn al-Athir said: ‘He meant by its lowliness and humility before Allah, and lest one should become one of the oppressors and the arrogant.’

That is how the Prophet SAWS lived – far from the life of the arrogant ones, whether in look or form: he dressed as the slaves and the poor dressed; and he ate what they ate; and when a stranger came he (the stranger) did not distinguish him from his Companions for he was with them as one of them; and at home he mended his shoe with his own hands; and he patched his cloak; and he milked his sheep; and he turned the millstone to grind grains alongside the woman neighbor and the slave.

When a man entered upon him and, being in awe, was trembling, the Prophet SAWS said: ‘Be at ease, for I am not a king. rather, I am the son of a woman of the Quraysh who used to eat dried meat in Makkah.’

Thank you for clarifying the Term. I wish Pakistan had made Arabic a Mandatory language to learn in our Schools along with English so we would not have had such misunderstandings.

Back to topic, I spent 6 months on a Consulting assignment in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 2008. Sure I travelled there on the US passport but everyone knew I was a Pakistani because of my name and because I told them I was originally from Pakistan. I was treated with utmost respect and my Saudi friends were very hospitable. Saudis treat people based on their character and personality and how they conduct themselves. Many Pakistanis in Saudi Arabia are not very well educated. Most taxi drivers in Jeddah were Pakistanis but there is a minority of Pakistani doctors, engineers, IT professionals, Airline Pilots and Accountants who are treated quite well. Most Houseboys and janitors in Jeddah are Bangladeshis. Indians hold higher positions as accountants and Engineers, also.

I found that Bin Ladin family ( Corporation) had many Hindu Employees from Gujarat.

Saudis are a proud Nation and certainly have a rich history to be proud of. I found most Saudis in Jeddah to be quite respectable and honourable people. The kind of people I would invite to my home and call them friends.

I think pakistanis on this Forum are being hypocritical. A Saudi citizen treats Pakistani taxi driver probably a lot better than some Pakistanis would treat poor people in Pakistan. If you have any doubts, please go to the rural Pakistan and see how the Chaudharies and Vaderas treat common Pakistani. You will find the Vadera sitting on a sofa or a high chair and the poor peasants are made to sit on the ground. Please learn to respect your own people before you go around criticizing others how they treat some poor Pakistanis. I wish we can love our fellow citizens as well as the Saudis love theirs. If we did we would do more for our masses and make Education free for the poor ( our Miskeen Pakistani brothers and Sisters ).

*ARMSTRONG*, by the way don't call me or any one else "Sir". It's a very retrogressive term, used in our bureaucratic system. It's a mindset taught to us in our schools / colleges / military schools etc etc. There is no distinction between any one of us, either be it age / sex / or status. Call me by handle, and try to apply this in your daily life as well.

- Arabs don't allows their women to marry a pakistani + any other country on earth

- Saudis don't provides their citizenship to a pakistani + any other country on earth

- Arabs don't treat equally and don't provide equal legal rights to the pakistanis + any other country on earth

this rule is for any foreigner not only for pakistanis including your great india .

That is one fked up Rule, completely against the philosophy-teaching-unity taught by the Final Prophet of Islam.

Well I'm sorry if it's just love being dished out to them on this forum (pun-intended). I am more of a practical guy, I dish out the same love in real life to them as well :) Imagine, just by spending some of my time today bashing them here on the forum, I'm loosing a small fortune in profits not realized. BUT.. It's all worth it :D

Yes but the other side of the argument is that they never came here with a stiff rod up their arses but were perfectly polite but it was us who started the vitriol ! Khairr...forget about that tell us hows life in Turkey ? Galatasary or Fenerbahce ? :D

Plz, consult ur eyes specialist at the earliest.

1. Read my post again with glasses on..............

2. These are not my words.

3. This is said by Pakistani writer Hasan Nisar

4. Read the context of his saying............He want to say that Arabs don't treat pakistani equally or with respect but pakistanis still loves Arabs.

5. USA/UK treat pakistani fairly and provides them equal rights still we pakistani curse them.

Funny enough, none of them :D I spend every moment of my life either traveling / creating new businesses or having fun. No time for sports, my latest pass-time seems to be this forum. In a couple of minutes I'll go swimming and then go out :)

Wow, I cant believe the Bengali driver kissed the foot of the Saudi after getting so much abuse:

Granted that the Saudi here is a poor excuse of a human being, but we cannot take one incident like this and extrapolate that the whole Saudi Nation is to blame. There are good and bad people in every society.

Well, would you let me reword whatever you said from a different angle? Hold them in contempt, unless proven otherwise - Does this float your imaginary love-boat?
