Fakhruddin, Moeen can still defend

2011-07-05__The%20Uddins2.jpg

Fakhruddin Ahmed, chief adviser to the last caretaker government, and former army chief Gen Moeen U Ahmed got the last chance to defend themselves in connection with the 2007 Dhaka University campus violence.

Rashed Khan Menon, head of a parliamentary sub-committee probing the violence during the last caretaker government's tenure, said the duo can give their statements until the team submits its report before the House in the next session. ...................

However, no-one of them, who are learnt to have been living in the US, turned up. Both of them, however, sent written statements to the sub-committee.

In his statement received on April 17, Fakhruddin claimed that the then interim government tried "its best to defuse the violent situation".

Earlier on April 13, Gen Moeen sent his statement where he claimed that he was not involved in atrocities on DU teachers and students.

It appears that anyone who has had anything to do with governing the country is up for an enquiry.

It has, I believe, has happened before too!

One thing good is that Bangladeshi Government always want to get down to finding out the truth.

On the other hand, it appears that anyone who is connected to governance had indulged in activities or given orders that were not entirely in the interest of governance or so the spate of inquiries and court cases seem to indicate.

The other interesting thing is that once a person has done his stint of governance or being connected to governance and has a case slapped, he takes off to the UK or US. These chaps are in the US and Khaleda's son with his family is in the UK.

It does indicate that they are aware that their 'deeds' will catch up and also indicates that they have wealth that permits them to stay endlessly in foreign nations where the daily living would knock the bottom of any average person's earnings and savings!!
