Israel wants to export gas together with Azerbaijan

The gas sector can become the main direction of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Israel.

Yesterday in Baku Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that “we are talking not only about the sale of oil, supplied by Azerbaijan to Israel and which is the key part of our country’s oil import, but also about our joint ventures for export of natural gas”.

"Speaking here today, we’re talking about the connection of Israel’s gas import to a large pipeline from Azerbaijan to Turkey, the construction of which is ongoing. This is a direction which can undoubtedly strengthen the economy of both countries. I think this will be even a more important achievement," Netanyahu said.

GPC alone is projected to create half a trillion of revenue through decades of its operation, generating approximately 150 - 200 billion in profit. Together with Petkim and Petrochemical projects in Azerbaijan, SOCAR will be receiving double digit profit annually in petrochemical sector alone.

SOCAR signs licensing agreements within GPC project

Azerbaijan’s state energy giant SOCAR signed licensing agreements with such companies as Technip, Univation Technologies, Axens and Sinopec Tech as part of the project on construction of Gas Processing and Petrochemical Complex (GPC) in Azerbaijan.

Under the agreement, SOCAR will get a license on the use of relevant technologies provided by the companies, while licensors, in turn, will provide certain engineering and design solutions for the project.

The financing of the project will be carried out within the Chinese Silk Road Economic Belt project.

SOCAR launched the GPC project to maximize added value of the upstream-midstream-downstream oil and gas chain and create a cutting-edge standard processing industry in Azerbaijan.

The primary purpose of the project is to provide the end users in the country with purified natural gas and ensure production of high value added polymers. Under the project, gas processing, and petrochemical plants will be built in Garadagh, 15 km south of Baku.

A gas processing plant will remove carbon dioxide and other toxic components. A petrochemical plant will comprise of a steam cracker, swing polyethylene unit and other units, while approximate annual production will amount to produce approximately 600,000 tons of polyethylene and 120,000 tons of propylene.

Polyethylene and polypropylene produced in Azerbaijan, which will meet the highest international quality standards are planned to be exported to Turkey, the EU, China and other countries.

The project is deemed to mark the beginning of a new era in development of Azerbaijan’s petrochemical industry and turn the country into a major player in the industry.

National Low-Cost Carrier Buta Airways to be Established in Azerbaijan

A decision was made to establish Azerbaijan's own low-cost carrier at a meeting of the Board of CJSC Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL).

The new low-cost carrier, which was named BUTA AIRWAYS, will be part of the CJSC Azerbaijan Airlines and will be a 100-percent owned subsidiary company of AZAL.

The airline will be based at Heydar Aliyev International Airport.

BUTA AIRWAYS will have its own fleet on the basis of Embraer aircrafts in its own livery, its own staff and independent tariff policy.

It should be noted that the civil aviation business is very complicated and specific, and any major changes take time. There are so many nuances in functioning of the budget airline. Currently, active work is underway on all aspects. It is expected that BUTA AIRWAYS will begin flights in autumn 2017.

Large-scale work to reduce air tickets prices is carried out on the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev. Flights to 13 popular destinations are operated under AZALJET brand since March this year. Sales and flight scheme on these flights is close to low-cost airlines, that is, passengers have a choice of several services in the form of paid options.

At the moment, base rate for all AZALJET flights, including all taxes and fees, starts from 49 euros. This is one of the most competitive prices among all airlines flying to Azerbaijan.

We hope that the services of the national low-cost carrier will attract not only our citizens, but also increase the inflow of tourists to Azerbaijan.
