ndia's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has proposed to develop an indigenous Airborne Early Warning and Control System (AWACS), described as an 'eye-in-the-sky' force multiplier that can keep a watch on enemy military activity, aircraft getting airborne or missile being fired.

Defence Minister AK Antony informed the Indian Parliament on the DRDO proposal to begin work on the project called AWACS (India).

"The project proposal for indigenous development of AWACS (India) has been submitted by the DRDO for government approval," Antony said in a written reply to a question from members of the Council of States.

He also said that the Long Term Integrated Perspective Plan (LTIPP) of the Defence Ministry envisages deployment of a mix of large AWACS and small Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) System aircraft.

AWACS have better capabilities and are mounted on larger aircraft, while AEW&C are mounted on smaller planes.

"While three AWACS already stand operationalised in the Indian Air Force (IAF), there is a proposal for procurement of two additional AWACS. Simultaneously, DRDO is engaged in indigenous development of three AEW&C systems," he added.

The procurement of two additional AWACS will be follow-on to the $1.1 billion contract signed by India, Israel and Russia in 2004. Under the contract, IAF got three Israeli-made PHALCON AWACS that were mounted on Russian IL-76 aircraft in 2009 and 2010.

The larger AWACS and the smaller AEW&C systems can detect incoming fighter jets and missiles, apart from keeping a tabe on troop’s movement across the border.

This early warning enables military commanders to take quicker decisions to counter the enemy's military activities on time.

DRDO's plans on kick-starting its AWACS project comes even as China has amassed capabilities in this regard, having inducted a mix of 20 old and new AWACS.

Pakistan too inducted four Swedish Saab-2000 AWACS in quick succession and is in talks with China to get four Chinese ZDK-03 AWACS.

Under the AWACS (India) project, the DRDO plans to develop a 360-degree AESA (active electronically scanned array) radar, which will be mounted on the Russian Ilyushin or the US Boeing or the European Airbus planes.

Its current project for the AEW&C systems are based on three Embraer-145 jets obtained from Brazil for $200 million, under a project approved by the government in October 2004 for $370 million.

When all these project of India fructify, it will be deploying 15 AWACS and AEW&C before 2020.

The only thing "Indigenous" DRDO hasnt announced is an Optimus prime...
Other than that they made pretty much everything "Indigenous" aka Israeli..

These are your favourite lines ever

But can you explain why in the world a Pakistani National living in UK care about the claims of Indian organisation which he always don't think is capable enough ??? Obsession ???
Why not just skip the thing Mr. Junior think tank ???

An inferiority complex, often used to mean low self-esteem, is a feeling of intense insecurity, inferiority or of not measuring up. An inferiority complex can be seen in the negative or "useless" reactions to problems in life. These reactions are useless because they do not solve the problem at hand, but only serve to guard one's self-esteem by avoiding the task or by placing the blame for the failure outside of the individual's control. Although the inferiority complex may be seen as comparing individuals or groups as one being superior to another, it more closely describes how one deals with a fear of failure.

Congrats to DRDO for indegineous development of msissiles!!

CCS 'in-principle' approval for indigenous AWACS project

The Government has given approval to the DRDO to develop an indigenous Airborne Early Warning and Control System (AWACS) that can help the IAF keep an eye deep inside enemy territory.

An 'in principal' approval was granted to the proposal for developing an indigenous AWACS at the recent meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security, senior DRDO officials told PTI here.

After the approval, the DRDO will now work towards finalising the further details of the programmes and the number of such aircraft that the IAF would require for giving a complete coverage of India's boundaries, they said.

India already has a fleet of three AWACS aircraft supplied by Israel deployed on the Ilyushin-76 aircraft procured form Russia.

For the indigenous AWACS, the DRDO will look for an alternative aircraft of the size of the IL-76 and deploy its AWACS system on it, they said.

On the difference between the Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft being developed by it and the proposed AWACS, they said the AWACS radar gives a 360 degree coverage while the AEW&C gives a covergae of 270 degrees.

AWACS have better capabilities and are mounted on larger aircraft, while AEW&C are mounted on smaller planes.

The Long Term Integrated Perspective Plan (LTIPP) of the Defence Ministry envisages deployment of a mix of large AWACS and small Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) System aircraft.

Under the AWACS project, the DRDO plans to develop a 360-degree AESA (active electronically scanned array) radar.

Its current project for the AEW&C systems are based on three Embraer-145 jets.

well,i certainly dont know about your qualification and whether you have actually worked on any radar systems,.lemme assure you that i have both, and i have worked on rajendra PESA and know what kinda research activity is going on here at LRDE for sometime.I cant write everything, however,i can suggest you to go through scientific literature, patent documents filed by research engineers at LRDE,that will give you a glimpse of the technology that have been indigenously created by LRDE.
for instance, take the TRMM developed by india(mind you! it is a patented technology of LRDE).a single TRMM has 8-distinct t/r modules embedded in it.It renders one of the highest t/r module density in the world.LRDE has successfully created X,C,L-band TRMM for various radars.
infact to your surprise,ISRO's bangalore based lab too, designed their own S-band T/R modules to be fitted on RISAT-1 satellite!they did it independently!
so,please open your eyes and look for the research work going on in india!

There are several no of indigenous /made in india products in service, and nothing is wrong if you say that DRDO is a backbone of our armed forces.

Israel,is very much dependent by India, but i think, not on our indigenous AWAC program. The radar is Indian and platform Brazilian.

There is a handful of products that are yet to be "made in india",like a medium lift chopper to be an example.

By the way thanks for your concern brother, may our countries long live and god bless you. Have a nice day safriz.
