Dr Syed Ali Haider & his son killed in Lahore !!

@mods: Can we please keep this thread free from profanity and off topic posts as a measure of respect for the departed?

The post mortem report reveals that Dr. Syed Ali Haider was shot at close range from the right side from an SMG six times. His son was shot once in the head.

Such depravity in taking innocent lives cannot be part of any religion, surely.

Eye surgeon, son shot dead in Lahore
Gunmen on motorbikes shot and killed a 45-year-old professor of ophthalmology and his 12-year-old son in Lahore’s posh locality of Gulberg early on Monday in what appeared to be a well-coordinated sectarian attack.

No group claimed the responsibility for the attack. But intelligence sources said the possibility of involvement of militants linked to banned outfits, notably Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, in this deadly assault could not be ruled out.

Police officials said four unidentified gunmen, riding on two motorcycles, raked the vehicle of eye surgeon Prof Dr Syed Ali Haider with gunfire near Forman Christian College while he was taking his son to his college. Dr Haider escaped the first hail of bullets as he accelerated his Honda vehicle to escape the assassination bid. The attackers, however, chased him down at a traffic signal on Canal Bank Road and opened fire at his car. The doctor and his son, Ali Murtaza, received fatal gunshot wounds, investigators said while adding the attackers fled the scene with their automatic weapons.

“Syed Ali Haider sustained multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot. His son was rushed to the Services Hospital but he could not survive,” a rescue official said. The bodies were moved to a morgue for autopsy.

The abrupt shooting on Zahoor Elahi Road and Canal Bank Road triggered panic among road-users and motorists as they ran towards safer places leaving their vehicles behind, witnesses said, and added it was thirty minutes after the incident that a police party reached the crime spot and launched a search operation after marking off the entire locality. Entry and exit points were closed down and snap checking was intensified. No arrest could be made as investigation into the double-murder case was in progress until the filing of this report. Dr Haider, an eye-specialist at the Lahore General Hospital, was a resident of Hali Road, Gulberg.

Meanwhile, dozens of relatives and friends of the victim reached the spot and protested the gruesome killings. Later, scores of religious activists belonging to the Shia community staged protests across the city.

Earlier in October last year, a Shia leader, Syed Shakir Ali Rizvi, was killed in a drive-by shooting in Lahore.

According to sources, Dr Haider was the only son of Prof Zafar Haider and Prof Tahira Bokhari. Having graduated from King Edward Medical College in 1987, he proceeded to the United Kingdom and returned to serve the people of his country after completing FRCS in Ophthalmology. Dr Haider rose quickly to become a professor of

Dr Haider died on the spot, while his son sustained injuries. The child succumbed to his wounds at a hospital.
The post mortem report stated that Dr Haider was shot six times in the head, while his son Murtaza was shot once in the head.

“This is a sectarian killing. Ali had no personal enmity,” the doctor’s uncle, retired Lahore High Court judge, Justice Syed Fazal Haider told Express News.
The police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
The Superintendent at the Model Town police station, Malik Owais cautioned against calling this an anti-Shia killing whilst investigations were still underway.
The head of SKMT and chief of Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf, Imran Khan condemned this killing.
“[It is] distressing to see professionals being killed along with their children. We cannot tolerate these brutal acts of terror,” Imran tweeted.

Time for Pakistanis to say enough is enough!! These bastards taking innocent lives are not helping any cause and how are they able to do such acts every now and then? There should be no support/sympathy for such losers from the society.

My heart goes out for the doctor and son. The uneducated religious fanatics are screwing the society by taking on the talented and the educated ones.. That's sad!!

@somebozo Foreign Source ? :blink:

So the terrorists are not from Pakistan, not raised by PA and ISI back in the days ?

The ideology and money comes from foreign sources.
The PA and ISI trained a few rag tag Jehadis for Afghan-Soviet war, since then the art has been passed generation over generations!

Even Criminals have an unsaid rule even with Police. Hands off from each other's family.

Dr Syed Ali Haider, a fine fine man, who was gunned down along with his 11yr old son Murtaza, was the only Retina specialist in Pakistan

How does one shoot a 11 year old? I mean look the kid in the eye and then shoot him in the head???

Not that blowing oneself up in a crowded place of strangers is any better, but this somehow is even more difficult to understand. I give up. Hope the killers are brought to book, and by that i mean a book of medieval punishments.

What a shameful event for any nation, for any human. When are we going to learn to live with each other? Greed has taken away our compassion and the ability to think before acting. It is a sad fact but killing another has become a norm of another.

Dr. Syed Ali Haider was often on TV, promoting health. He was a great teacher, the son of great teachers. He provided a lot of services for poor patients for free. He was the only properly trained vitreo-retinal specialist in Pakistan.

The sad thing about this photograph is that the guest of honor is General Zia ul Haq (first row in chairs, near the middle), whose islamization policies laid the foundation for the present day mess in Pakistan, leading to the killing of Dr. Syed Ali Haider (who is the last row), and the building in the back is the Forensic Department, where his post-mortem was performed.

Just a Normal citizen but was a Shia.

Shias are dying like Lambs in Pakistan.
Thanks to the Mullahs who preach the Sunnis that the Shias should be put to the sword as they do not believe in the eminence of the Prophet (PBUH) which, according to them is blasphemous. Unless these extremist Mullahs are dumped into the Arabian Sea, the Shia-Sunni war will continue till the end of time.

This is not the Mullah issue. Mullahs are uncivilized and hungry of power and money. Money flows from the Kings of Arabia. The issue is something else "The Kings of Arabia"
