What's new

Dhaka-Sylhet 4-lane highway construction begins next month

It is a very good news. Long distance roads with only two lanes should become things of the past. It was 1960s when the single lane highways connecting the former 17 Districts were completed. After 1971, all these roads were gradually reconstructed with two lanes. Now it is time we rebuild these to four lane ones.

Dhaka-Sylhet highway is important because rich London people live there. But, a poor Faridpur and onward need Gabtoli-Aricha-Faridpur route as the next strong candidate for conversion to a four-lane road.

Faridpur will be connected via Padma Bridge 4 lane project

Mawa road is ok, but a Gabtoli-Aricha 4-lane road is needed because Aricha, after river crossings, connects Rajbari, Kushtia, and also Pabna, Pakshi, Natore via crossing at Nogor bari.

But after Padma bridge, this road will become obsolete. People will prefer a en-route.

Sure did Sir. Thanks for remembering. :-)

Only question is - how long it will take to finish it.

Probably not long given the urgency to connect to the Indian Northeast Seven sisters is quite high from all quarters.

Government says 2018 but 2019-2020 is more likely IMO.

Finance minister has already budgeted for the current fiscal year - I think the major delay will come from land acquisition as always.
