Dhaka, Nov 17 (UNB) - The Bangladesh Railway on Thursday signed an agreement with two Indian private companies for the construction of 2nd Bhairab and 2nd Titas rail bridges.

Under the agreement, the advisory companies will conduct feasibility study, prepare detail design and tender documents and monitor the construction work of the two bridges-one on the Meghna river and the other on the Titas river.

The project will be implemented involving Tk 900.59 crore.

Khairul Alam, on behalf of Bangladesh Railway, Amitav Dautta and AK Benarjee on behalf of the two advisory companies signed the agreement at Bangladesh railbhaban, said an official release.

Bangladesh railway is constructing the two bridges with a view to upgrading the Dhaka-Chittagong rail route into double track under the Indian credit programme.

According to the agreement, the advisory companies-Stup Consultant Private Ltd and Scot Wilson India Private Ltd- will complete fusibility study and prepare design within six months.

Communications Minister Syed Abul Hossain, rail secretary Fazle Kabir, director general of Bangladesh Railway Abu Taher, railway adviser of Indian High Commission in Dhaka Chandrima Rao, among others, were present on the occasion.
