Temple where the attack took place.

Rohtas: On India's 67th Independence Day, while Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was talking about inclusive growth and social equality at a village close to Patna, a different script played out at the Baddi village in Rohtas district, 160 km from the state capital.

A Dalit man was beaten to death and at least 12 others, including old women and children, severely injured as upper castes in the village allegedly attacked them for trying to hoist the national flag outside a temple belonging to the community.

80-year-old Ram Vilas was at the temple with his four sons when about 300 upper caste men attacked. While the sons managed to flee, Ram Vilas was beaten to death with stones and sticks.

Their crime: the temple land in question, at the entry of the village, is where the upper castes wanted a memorial to a freedom fighter born in the same village.

The Dalits in the village allege at least 10 policemen present at the site looked the other way while they were attacked with stones, sticks and even guns. The police station in-charge of the area has been suspended while a dozen people have been arrested.

The upper caste villagers rubbish the allegations, saying they only retaliated while the violence was started by the Dalits. On being asked why so many Dalits were injured, they had no answer.

The deceased Ram Vilas's young son says, "Nothing has changed in Nitish Kumar's Bihar. If it had, the attack wouldn't have happened."

Mr Kumar's Janata Dal United or JD-U, as part of its popular social engineering in Bihar, coined the term 'Mahadalits' for the poorest and the most marginalized among the Dalits.

Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar, who visited the injured at a hospital in Sasaram, the district headquarters of Rohtas, called the attack "unacceptable" and asked for strong legal action against the guilty. Ms Kumar, who represents Sasaram in Parliament, also asked the society to introspect on caste issues.

It has been posted before, and the one sided reporting busted.

The clash took place between upper caste rajputs and mahadalits (the most marginalised section among dalits) on August 15 in which one Ram Vilas Ram was killed while 43 others were injured at Baddi Mahadalit Tola under Baddi police station in Rohtas district.

The whole unsavoury incident took place over a “disputed spot” in Baddi where a memorial platform had been raised in the memory of a Rajput martyr Nishan Singh, who died during 1857 mutiny.

This platform lies adjacent to Sant Ravidas temple constructed by the mahadalits. Both the shrines are located on government land near Nishan Singh High School gate.

On August 15, some mahadalits stopped the landlords (Rajputs) from hoisting flag on the spot which they claimed was theirs, and shooed away the upper caste men.

Shortly after fleeing, the armed men, mostly landowners, returned in strength and attacked the mahadalits. The poor section also retaliated, with their women and children too joining them with sickles and axes. The battle which continued for hours left one Ram Vilas Ram dead, while 20 women and five children were critically injured. The rajputs too suffered injuries.

The Rohtas District Magistrate SKR Pudakalkatti said Rs 1.87 lakh had been given to Ram’s son under the provisions of SC Act and Rs 50,000 from the CM’s Relief Fund.

Rohtas SP Vikash Burman, who is personally monitoring the situation, has removed the station house officer (SHO) of Baddi, Balwant Kumar and replaced him with Anil Kumar Sinha. “We are trying our best to restore peace in the area at the earliest,” the SP said.

Dalits should unite and take help from Pakistan and Zaid Sir to get over this evil yindoo rule. It is proved again that no minority in India is safe. Its not very far before we take our due for the Dalits of India by creating Dalitistan.

This Dalitistan concept was developed by our Hero Ashok Kumar. Achieving his dream would be our tribute to him. Though I am very sad that our Pakistan fanbase posted this news after 9 days but that's okay.

We will carry on and achieve our goal.

Such petty people fighting over the smallest things. If everybody sat together and ate a meal together once in a while this kinda crap won't happen as often.

Better than a hypocrite who singles out an entire country because of a few terrorists and spends alot of time on PDF.:cuckoo:

Dalits should embrace Islam and join alliance with Pakistan.

Caste system - higher caste says that any thing dalits touch becomes impure. Dalits also can't sit with higher castes as it is considered dishonorable, thy can touch food which higher caste consume because they make it impure. The only system in the world where a segment of humans is considered a disease, literally a disease.

As against killing the non believers and taking their wives as sex slaves? I guess a lot of systems in the past treated lower classes as less than humans and exploitation - economic was the driving force. Asking non believers to pay extra taxes, serfdom, slavery (often under religious sanction), feudal system (still active in Pakistan), bonded laborers, apartheid etc were indeed social evils that existed and exist. In India they have been outlawed and not sanctioned by the state, however some primitive people still stick to their primitive ideologies and keep following them religiously. For example blood money in Saudi Arabia for different religions and even for genders in different and testimony of women is of less value than of men :) even today!!!

This disease will slowly go away. But pretending social evils exist only in India is just for mental satisfaction of the forever condemned :) They need to pretend that much extra hard.

In any case a property dispute is nothing about caste, its a property dispute.
