At least seven officials including Assistant Police Inspector (ASI) were abducted by dacoits when they attacked police check-post in Sadiqabad today (Sunday), Dunya News reported.
According to details, as many as thirty dacoits armed with modern weapons attacked the check-post located at river region Machka and abducted ASI and police officials of special squad who were deployed in Sadiqabad on exclusive task.
Among the hostages include head constable Mumtaz, constable Asif, Arif Shah, Zia and Tahir.
Heavy contingent of Punjab and Sindh police reached the scene and exchange of fire from both the sides is underway.
According to police, the dacoits are trying to take the police officials to the inner area of the river whereas the police force is in pursuit of the dacoits.
On the other hand, Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has taken notice of the incident and has also summoned report from District Police Officer (DPO) Sohail Zafar Chatha.
The CM has also directed to take all possible steps for safe recovery of the police officials.
