Chinese Y-20 Aircraft: In Focus

Chinese Air Force will have made a large transport aircraft, in addition to enhance the Air Force’s strategic projection capabilities, but also means that China can independently for the early-warning aircraft, aerial tankers, and large-scale R & D and production of electronic surveillance plane to provide a stable and reliable platform.

November 5, in the aircraft industry anniversary of the establishment of a media conference, the aircraft industry aircraft, said Hu Xiaofeng, general manager, “Our independent research and development and production of military aircraft will be by the end of 200-ton large aircraft manufacturing company in Xi’an appearance.

” According to reports, this large, China’s largest military aircraft, from R & D to manufacturing all of the Central West, flew corporate aircraft industry alone.

China’s large military transport aircraft development program around 3-4 years ago. Because China uses a unique new technology, its large military transport aircraft and is close to international advanced level.

China’s future large-scale military aircraft of the Russian Il -76 reference to the design of transport aircraft, but China’s aircraft larger, more carrying capacity, electronic equipment is very advanced.

In addition, analysts believe that China’s large military aircraft also made reference to the C-17 “Globemaster” transport aircraft are designed in part.

In power systems, the first possible D-30 engines, and then will use WS-18 engine, or FWS-10 engine improvement model.

China-made 200-ton aircraft is beyond the Il-76 | Global Military

Could you please post something new and authentic?

i admire china for there hard work which they put in developing their own weapon industry, it may not be the best but its their own thats what matters most.

best things is they dont only independent in arms but in general goods as well which makes them better then former soviet union.

India should also crank up her Weapon Industry and depend less on foreign sources. I hope Pakistan will also crank up her weapon industry as well. We Asians are capable of whatever Europeans can do.

well indai depends 80 percent of weapons from foreign nations china 95 percent on tmeselves so it is hard to beat china but easy to defeat india if you are china anyway chinese weapons on which whole world specially indians laughed boy they are as good as americans what they lack is history and experience behind them as china not fought any big wars so china never used it A class weapons but americans did any way boy this Y 20 is my own wish list to pakistan but and south africa might to opt it as this is copy of airbus cargo plane A 400 they can get it half prize of A 400 Y 20 is cheap and as reliable as A 400 only difference is engines i think Y 20 engines are better than A 400 becoz of Y 20 engines are jet engines and A 400 are turbine engines

If it's possible please post authoritative information about this project - it is a very interesting project with great potential as many Air Forces will be seeking to ad or replace their transport and the cost both in terms of currency and diplomacy, of western transport, will make such a project very attractive.

XAC 'Y-20' (China), Aircraft - Fixed-wing - Military

Type
Medium transport/multirole.

Programme
Announced by AVIC President on 5 November 2009 that China was to 'demonstrate' a new military transport in December 2009. A series of artist's impressions of an aircraft allegedly designated 'Y-20' was, duly, published on an aviation enthusiasts' website (not an unusual forum for Chinese official photograph releases) on 25 December, although these differed in minor detail from pictures of a scale model of the same project which had come to light, less dramatically, slightly earlier. These images were different, again, from drawings dating from late 2008, which showed an aircraft having a low tailplane and a fuselage shape tending to support statements that it had been designed with inputs from Antonov, designer of the An-70. The latest image consensus shows a design conforming more to current trends for such a type of aircraft - notably the Boeing C-17 and twin-jet Embraer KC-390 and Kawasaki C-2. In the US, in July 2009, a former Boeing employee was convicted of selling C-17 technical details to China.Design reportedly initiated in about 2005, involving input from No. 603 Institute and "some technology" from Il-76. Reported that rear fuselage for prototype was under construction at SAC (Shaanxi) by end of 2009; maiden flight targeted for 2012.Rumoured designation Y-20 not confirmed or explained (highest transport aircraft designation used hitherto was Y-16 for abortive project to licence-build Boeing 737).Following provisional estimates were made before official unveiling, and may be subject to change:

Currently 603 Institute, XAC and SAC are developing an advanced 4-engine large transport (Y-20?) which is smaller than American C-17 and based upon some IL-76MD technology. Its max payload was expected to be around 50t and max TO weight >200t. Fitted with high-lift devices along the wing leading and trailing edges, the aircraft is capable of taking off from relatively short and unpaved runways, making many temporary airfields behind the battlefield accessible. Currently it is unclear whether the aircraft will have an IFR probe installed or not. The prototypes and the initial batch may be powered by Russian D-30KP-2/WS-18 turbofans, later by the modified WS-10 (WS-118?). A full-scale metal mock-up (head section) of Y-20 was constructed by 2008 and the first flight is projected in 2012. On August 20, 2009 SAC started to build the rear fuselage of the first prototype. It was reported (April 2010) that the full-scale mock-up was completed in early 2010. It was also rumored that the aircraft might serve as the testbed for the Chinese airborne laser weapon prototype similar to American YAL-1 which is thought to be under development. The next generation of medium transport aircraft was believed to be under development at XAC/603 Institute as well, powered by two modified WS-10 turbofans. Its max payload is around 25t.
