China & Pakistan Supports Sri Lanka at UNHRC

Sri Lankan Minister and President’s envoy on human rights Mahinda Samarasinghe briefed at the 18th session of the UN Human Rights Council on the measures taken by the government to protect and promote human rights in Sri Lanka

According to Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa who was also in the delegation, many countries, including, China, Pakistan and the Maldives expressed their support to Sri Lanka at this session.

"Pakistan pledged their support on behalf of the Islamic nations numbering 54 while China was also strong in their backing.

He said that Maldivian President Mohammed Nasheed, who also participated in the session, made remarks in support of Sri Lanka.

The minister said that the submission made by the Sri Lankan delegation was a success. He added that the documentary “Lies Agreed Upon”, which was produced to keep the international community informed of what actually happened during the humanitarian operation in Sri Lanka, was also screened before the Council.

Minister Yapa pointed out that the screening of this documentary before the UN human rights body is a victory for Sri Lanka. He added that this documentary gave a clear picture to the member states of the Human Rights Council of the government’s endeavour to free over 300,000 innocent civilians who were held hostage by the LTTE terrorists at the last stage of war.

How about Indian support? I heard bad news about India in the morning.

pakistan on behalf of 54 muslim countries means bangladesh also supports it?

Yes. Most probably.
You see: There is no real 'position' for almost all Islamic countries viz a viz the Sri Lanka vs Tamils. And so if one strong country wants to 'steer' the policy in a certain way then the rest of the 54 can follow the suit.

Same thing can be said about the EU or ASEAN or whatever.

In this case Pakistan is really pulling hard for SL and so the rest of the 50+ Islamic countries--not a small number--are likely to oblige.

excellant news that neighbouring countries are supporting each other and not letting nations from afar interfere in our neighbourhood. we already have too much west in afghanistan etc

Dont underestimate LTTE they will be back with a bang trust me

Yes there were reports of them regrouping in india..

Dont worry we r there to support the Lankans.. be it weapons, political support or our PAF... Just like in the past.

;)

Remaining LTTE=dogs will be wiped out aswell... with a bomb.....trust me.
