MINGORA: US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Admiral Michael Mullen visited Swat on Wednesday with army chief General Ashfaq Kayani. Mullen praised the Pakistan Army’s efforts to rid the area of the Taliban. Sources said the two chiefs visited Kalam where Brigadier Zubair, the Swat operation commander, briefed them on the current military operation. Brig Zubair said the military continued its operations across the region and was on the look out for Taliban commanders hiding in the mountains. The visit to Swat is the first by any top American military official. Gen Kayani said the Swat operation had been successful due to the local population’s support. A 10-hour curfew had been enforced in the area to secure the two leaders’ movement.
