Army Chief observes military exercises

BAHAWALPUR, April 12 (APP): Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani spent a busy day witnessing ongoing Exercise ‘Azm-e-Nau-3’ today. He visited various formations and units participating in the Exercise in the field and also visited logistics installations.

The Army Chief also had an aerial view of the mechanized movement. He appreciated the high morale of the troops participating in the Exercise.

During the visit, the COAS was accompanied by Commander Southern Command Lieutenant General Khalid Shamim Wyane, Corps Commander Bahwalpur, Lieutenant General Naeem Khalid Lodhi and other senior military officers.
 
COAS visits Swat, inaugurates Govt. school at Tehsil Barikot

SAIDU SHARIF, April 21 (APP): Chief of the Army Staff, General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani here Wednesday visited village Shamozai of Tahsil Barikot and inaugurated a government school.

Corps Commander Peshawar Lt Gen Yasin Malik, In-charge Swat Operation Major General Ashfaq Nadeem and other senior military officers were accompanied with him.

The Army Chief also visited the Yadgar-e-Shuhada at Saidu Sharif and laid floral wreath on the Yadgar to pay tributes to the sacrifices of martyrs. He also offered Fateha for departed soul of martyrs.

Later, he also visited the Public Library setup near District Kacheri which has been reconstructed by army and orphanage Centre. He met with orphan children.

The Army Chief was given detailed briefing by the area commanders about latest security situation and relief work.

Youm-e-Shuhada to be observed on every April 30: Gen Kayani

* President, PM pay homage to martyrs
* Bakshi says sacrifices of armed forces to be remembered in history

ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: A special programme was held at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in connection with Youm-e-Shuhada to pay tribute to the sacrifices rendered by the martyrs of the Pakistan armed forces while protecting the country and fighting terrorism.

Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani laid a floral wreath at the site of Yadgar Shuhada.

Speaking on the occasion, Kayani paid tribute to the officers and jawans of the Pakistan Army who had embraced martyrdom in the ongoing war on terror. He said that Youm-e-Shuhada would be commemorated every year on April 30.

“In the past 63 years, the Pakistan Army has lost 15,000 soldiers, including 2,700 who sacrificed their lives in the war against terror. I am proud to say that the armed forces are part of the nation and the country is with the army,” Kayani said.

President, PM: Separately, President Asif Ali Zardari said the sacrifices rendered by the armed forces, police, law enforcement agencies and people in the fight against terrorism would not go in vain, APP reported

Also, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani paid homage and tribute to the courage and patriotism of the country’s brave soldiers for their sacrifice for peace and security of Pakistan.

Remembered: Separately, Lahore Corps Commander Lieutenant General Ijaz Ahmed Bakhshi said the sacrifices rendered by the officers of the armed forces to uphold the integrity and sovereignty of the country will forever be remembered.

Rawalpindi - April 30, 2010: To pay homage to the supreme sacrifices rendered by its Shuhada, Pakistan Army celebrated Yaum-e-Shuhada today. Ceremonies were held at Garrisons all over the Country. The impressive ceremony held at Yadgar-e-Shuhada, General Headquarters, was attended by families of Shuhada, Parliamentarians, serving and retired officers of the Armed Forces and a large number of people from all walks of life.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani alongwith relatives of Shuhada inaugurated the Shuhada Monument, laid the wreath and offered Fatiha. A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Army presented Guard of Honour.

Speaking on the occasion, COAS remembered the sacrifices of Shuhada for the defence of the Country. He also acknowledged the perseverance displayed by their families and the support rendered by the great Pakistani Nation. He pledged that Pakistan Army will continue to defend our beloved Motherland at all costs.

Few relatives of Shuhada also expressed their sentiments on the occasion and thanked the Army and the Nation for their support.

COAS calls on PM Gilani

ISLAMABAD, May 04(APP): Chief of the Army Staff, General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani called on Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani here at PM’s House this afternoon and discussed the overall security situation in the country.
 
Army Chief witnesses second phase of Azm-e-Nau III

RAWALPINDI, May 6 (APP): Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani on Thursday attended the second phase of Exercise Azm-e-Nau III, being conducted by the troops of Northern Command, near Sialkot.

He witnessed offensive manoeuvres by mechanized forces and greatly appreciated the morale of participating troops and professional standards displayed by the field formations.

COAS also visited Combined Military Hospital Kharian and witnessed exercise related activity.
