Cash strapped PA spent $100K at 5-star hotel in Gaza

Felesteen reports that last weekend PA prime minister Rami Hamdallah spent two days in Gaza along with an entourage - and that they weren't exactly parsimonious.

According to the article quoting PA sources, the delegation spent the two days in the five-star Movenpick (Al Mashtal) Hotel. It is the only five-star hotel in Gaza.

They took over 40 rooms and other parts of the hotel. The rooms cost $400-$600 a night and the suites go for up to $1400 a night, for a charge of $70,000 for room rentals. In addition, they spent $20,000 for food and $10,000 for transportation, for a total of about $100,000 for a two day stay. (I imagine that there were some additional security costs for them to visit Gaza.)

There is a bit of criticism in Arabic media from Arabs who have not been receiving their full salaries who are seeing the leaders of the PA spend money so extravagantly.

never heard of.... may be it is on other side of border :p:

Gaza have a 5-star hotel ? :o:

Yes but no rooms are filled.

Pretty positive its 4 star. It's the only hotel along with one more in the same area.

I've been to this one to eat food. It's looks neat but not close hotels I've seen in Canada.

Anyways, this is a troll thread but PA/Israel are the same exact thing. Partners in crime.

Yeah, I think I posted pix of it a few months ago: link

And? It was built under Israeli administration. Gaza could have many investors if Israel didn't bomb it. Before there were airports, seaports and so on. Until Israel withdrew and bombed them all. No investors build anymore in Gaza because Israel threatened to bomb all investments or any airports.

does this hotel ever get bombed by Israeli Air force ?

It was bombed in 2009. Hotel is largely for political gatherings and media gatherings. Lots of meetings take place there. Won't be surprised if it was bombed again, I'd have to go and see. They did bomb apartment complexes purely for purpose of creating homeless people and causing massive economic damage.

Here is a video of Israeli army bombing and drstorying one apartment complex:

Watch the first seconds you can see the attack.

....

Here's other one, it's called italian complex and bombed in southern Gaza detoryed completely dozens of floors:

According to gazatoday the hotel was inaugurated in 2011. That's six years after the Israelis unilaterally and unconditionally ethnically cleansed Gaza of Jews and pulled out their armed forces.

Falcon29, are we supposed to think of you as a liar-of-convenience who never aspires to moral improvement?

It's in Gaza. Officially it's in a "refugee camp".

You're an idiot, it's between the refugee camp and Gaza city. Much closer to Gaza city. And wow, a hotel. Golly Jee, I'm impressed. Like anyone cares.

I did more checking. I couldn't find a map of the Beach Camp boundaries; either the hotel is in Beach Camp territory or it's very close to the border of it, since during the August conflict Hamas was launching rockets from Beach Camp within view of the hotel. (If you don't remember the TV reporters on the roof/balconies there with rocket launches in the background there's a letter on file from Israel's representative to the U.N. describing it. Before that the Guardian described the hotel's location as "next to a military training camp."

And the hotel - funded by a foreign investment group - started construction in 1998 when "a final deal to end decades of conflict was in sight" and before the Jews were ethnically cleansed from Gaza, so you're partially correct there, Falcon29. It was then damaged during the Hamas-Fatah civil war in 2006, and again by Israeli missiles in 2008. Repairs were slow but getting the last bit of exquisite items needed to complete to project had to wait until Israel dropped the import restrictions on luxury goods in 2010.

as soon as i say the thread title, i expected this hamas activist, hazzy, to speak rot about pa... after all, he is a hamas mullah who hates the socialism-origin plo which is nominally meant to guide pa, as far as i know.

secondly, it is worthy to note that @Solomon2 and hazzy agree with each other as far as bashing pa is concerned.

also, what happens to the millions received by hamas and ij regularly from saudia, iran and the western governments ( through uno "reconstruction" projects ).

Gaza still exists?

unfortunately yes... egypt army should help plo take pro-plo gazans into west bank and egypt, and then those remaining in gaza ( supporters of hamas and ij ) can jump into the red sea, as far as i am concerned.
