Pakistan’s first animated series “Burka Avenger” has been nominated in the animation category for the Third International Emmy Kids Awards.
This is the first time that any Pakistani animated series has been recognized for an Emmy Award. Previously, Burka Avenger has won several awards including “Peabody Award 2013”, “Gender Equity Prize” and the “Rising Star Award” in the animation category at Canada International Film Festival.

Burqa Avenger follows the story of a girl, Jiya, who is an inspirational teacher by day and a burka-wearing superheroine by night. Jiya fights crime using a special martial art technique – “Takht Tabdeeli”which is based on books and pens.

Pakistan’s famous pop singer Haroon is the creator and director of Burka Avenger. The vocie cast behind the series characters include Hamza Ali Abbasi as Baba Bandook and Ainy Jaffery as Burka Avenger while Ali Zafar, Haroon, Ali Azmat and Josh have provided the music for the series.

Pakistan will compete against three other animation series in the category from France, Argentina and UK in the International Emmy Kids Awards ceremony to be held in New York on February, 20th 2015. We wish them all the best!

Have you seen Burqa Avenger on TV or on web? If not, are you planning to see the animated series now?

Awesome news. Achievement should be celebrated! Pakistan Zindabad!

“No nation can ever be worthy of its existence that cannot take its women along with the men. No struggle can ever succeed without women participating side by side with men. There are two powers in the world; one is the sword and the other is the pen. There is a great competition and rivalry between the two. There is a third power stronger than both, that of the women.” ― Muhammad Ali Jinnah

i don't like this idea of a burqa wearing avenger... that is not how societies are radically changed.

It's a cartoon. Not trying to make a socio-political statement or anything.

the makers are not thinking thoroughly... this cartoon will glamorize the burqa and legitimize it, when the need in pakistan ( and india ) is to burn the burqa... how do you think libya, iraq, egypt, syria, afghanistan etc got rid of the burqa decades back, and how do you think it came back again??

in india twenty years ago, there was not much burqa to be seen... now it is everywhere... influence of khomenei and deoband and gulf.

let us not make the burqa fashionable.

please being to post sensibly.

The title 'Burka Avenger' is indicative of the impoverished mentality of this cartoon serial's creator/director/maker.

Look. Women are humans too. They should be able to wear what they want.

but isn't the heroine what the title says??

agreed that the ladies should be able to wear to their choice, but when a certain clothing hides their female-ness ( by covering them up ), disallows their interaction openly with males and society ( by hiding face and eyes )... it creates a regressive, retarded and suspicious society... a very uncomfortable society... we must reject such an environment.

compare afghanistan during socialist years and after taliban takeover.

Your problem is that you are making decisions for women. And that is no different than a liberal engrez trying to sexualize a woman's appearance via his own convoluted imposition . I have met a lot of women in the US that sport the full niqab and have no insecurities when talking to men. In fact, many of them become more confident because they don't have to face stigmatization.

Your thinking makes me laugh. You think wearing a burkha prevents interaction with men?

I'm not sure If you have ever been outside of India, but most working girls in the middle east, Afghanistan and Pakistan wear the burkha. I advise you to do some traveling. In fact, I would personally host you in Pakistan, so that you can see the world for what it really is.

oh, those types?? "burqa is not my compulsion, it is my choice".

it is not their confidence but partly arrogance and party defensiveness... and in the west, people try to be politically correct, try to not say something that will put the tag of "racist" and "islamophobe" on them.

but that is changing... british schools/colleges are beginning to question the presence of burqa within their premises, and didn't you read that thread a few days back about the pegida "anti muslim" rally in germany?? do you think those german people really like to talk to a shapeless burqa??

if i want to talk a shapeless person, i will choose to talk to a male... those females voluntarily hiding their female shape can go a sex-change operation if they are so ashamed of their feminine-ness.

I'm not sure If you have ever been outside of India,

wrong logic yours... if i have to know that planet mars is a cold place, should i currently be traveling to mars??

search for pictures of palestinian female students from the "west bank" part... and i have seen enough arabs in india... maybe you should travel to egypt, west bank and algeria...

My friend, you are too ignorant. I have seen everything.

And there is nothing wrong with Tableeghi jamat, even though I am not a member.
