BSF protests shikar by Arab royals

I don't know why but I fail to see the ego issue here that many Indian members are highlighting, like I said before, almost half the world issues hunting permits to visitors but it's only a matter of national prestige, honour, sovereignty and what-not when Pakistan is involved?

Like I mentioned in a post a while ago, its just a matter of perception.

Given the level of social activism etc in India , something like this is incomprehensible while in Pakistan it is routine.

Quite like the arms thing. Ppl like me would love to own the kind of weapons ppl do in Pakistan. That I would never find an occasion to use it or get ammo for them is another matter.

It has also to do possibly the image created when Pak leased out 500,000 acres of farm land to KSA which gives the impression of being excessively ' flexible' to the rulers from middle east.

Such things do not happen in India hence the reactions.

Thanks for the links , but does Pakistan only allow Arabs to hunt ?

No, lot's of European Hunters come along and in the 90s and early 2000s Pakistan was a favourite destination for German Boar hunters because there's plenty of game, the license was cheap and the gun laws were lax. The Arabs come into equation SPECIFICALLY when the Houbara is concerned because:

1) They usually hunt with Falcons and Houbara is a good falconing bird (So I hear).
2) The Houbara Meat is prized by the Arabs for it's strong taste and supposed Aphrodisiac properties.

So the licenses are not reserved for Arabs.

This story really caught on but the fact of the matter remains that the project never went through. The reason the project was being planned was because of the long term benefit it entailed. This was POTENTIALLY arable land that was uncultivated as yet because of the scarcity of water in the said areas. The KSA was going to develop the irrigation facilities to cultivate this land and after their lease runs out, the land along with the irrigation facilities would be returned to Pakistan. We have to live with **** like this when we lack the resources to get **** done ourselves.

Alright, but i still think, irrespective of how many countries in the world allow this , it is not a good practice at all .

I hope India doesn't allow this kind of crap of allowing foreigners to do such things on your soil to your animals . Of course, in case of hunting man-eater predators ,that is a different story altogether.

I have been checking the list of countries in ur list. Its south africa, Argentina and US.

Digged up some interesting points regarding gun cultures in the above ones.

Argentina

There are between two and 2.5 million illegal weapons in Argentina, with firearms being used in almost 47% of murders.

"Every criminal now has a gun," says Daniel Rodríguez, chief spokesman for Argentina's federal police. "Every criminal is prepared to kill."

THE culture of gun ownership has long been ingrained in Argentina, particularly in rural areas, where landowners and gauchos, Argentina's cowboys, control vast cattle herds in often difficult terrain. Owning a gun or a knife is often considered a sign of masculinity in Argentina.

"Argentina is awash with guns," says Ricardo Torterolo, director of the Club de Tiro Independencia, one of the city's most respected shooting clubs. "There are hundreds of thousands of unregistered weapons in circulation. Almost every family has access to a weapon of some kind."

South Africa

At least 30 people are shot dead in South Africa every day and there are more than four million registered firearms in the country and millions more illegal guns.

It's not a right, it's a privilege, whenever the Wildlife Dept thinks that the population of birds or any other animal for that matter, cannot sustain a hunting season then these permits are denied to whoever is applying for them. There was a great controversy sometime back when Pakistan denied the permits to the Saudi Royal Family and it turned into a full blown political catastrophe. The two countries were on the verge of calling back their ambassadors!

Love for firearms has cost US a lot and they have the fearful society so does South Africa.

Guns are for taking away life. The love for guns take away humanity, destroy social fabric.

the illegal hunting continues one or the other.

India banned such hunting in 72 though in 2007 there was a plan to allow dont know what happened then.

Guns don't kill people, people do. The soldier who guards your border at night also holds a gun, so does the vigilant policeman who patrols your street while you sleep.

Where can I get me one of those Houbara birds !

You'd need a multi-million rupee license, just get viagra!

Illegal hunting is another thing altogether . That too is done mostly by locals . You can't compare it with the practice of legally allowing foreigners to do such things.

This is what happens when you give people special privileges . They start treating it like a right . They had no right to get upset.

Guns at the hands of a soldier and with civilians (incl kids & teens) are totally different.

If its not , guns shouldnt be distributed with licence but should be sold freely like any other commodity, cause its the people, not the gun.

Dress up like a houbara bird and go into wild. Some curious houbara will come along , then catch them when its nearby.

But dubhara math karna.

Can't really say about India but here, that's exactly how they are sold. I support greater gun control though. I am one of those guys who would like to live in a gun-free environment but one must realize that the killer will kill, if you take away guns, he'll use a knife, take that away and there's a club, if not a knuckleduster and if nothing else, even a pillow or his own hands will do.

Hunting rare species for fun is disgrace to human being.

Another aspect of this is Arabs being Muslims (Pinnacle of muslin values). Is it allowed allowed to kill animal for fun and eat (not Hallal) in Islam?

no don't be dumb! what is some royal boy hunting for fun got to do with religion???

Pakistan should be ashamed that despite being independent nation they indulge in such colonial era style guest entertainment.

what kind of a dumb logic is this? why do indians learn english then its a "colonial langauge"! besides its ok because
