BSF picks up 5 Bangladeshi nationals | The Daily Star

Indian Border Security Force (BSF) picked up five Bangladeshi nationals from Sunamganj and Thakurgaon border points yesterday morning.

Four people of Laurergar village in Tahirpur upazila of Sunamganj were detained by BSF members from Meghalaya-Sylhet border around 9:00 am.

The Indian border guards later dragged them inside the Indian territory, reports our Sylhet correspondent.

The detainees are Shahjahan Miah, 24, Shahar Ali, 32, Nayeb Ali, 35, and Shukur Ali, 40.
BSF members picked them up when they were collecting firewood from the bordering area inside the Bangladesh territory, locals said.

Lt Col AKM Maksudul Haque, commanding officer of Eight Battalion of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Sunamganj, said “We already held a company commander-level flag meeting protesting the incident.”

“The BSF assured us of taking necessary measures to set the Bangladeshis free soon,” he added.
In Thakurgaon, BSF picked up Imani, 35, from Dabri border point under Haripur upazila around 9:15 am, reports our local correspondent.

Imani, son of late Abdur Rashid of Geruadangi village of the upazila, was detained inside the Indian territory when he was returning to Bangladesh with 20 bottles of Phensidyl, said Lt Col Abu Bakar, commanding officer of 30 BGB Battalion.

Later, a company commander-level flag meeting between the BGB and BSF was held at Dabri border area to discuss the release of Imani.

Were they really dragged into Indian territory or did they accidentally/deliberately trespass into Indian territory to collect firewood? Happens all the time though. Not worth getting mad about. :)

Awami League turned BDR/BGB into genocidal force and killing Bangladeshis and making it easier for indian BSF taking away Bangladeshis.

Deliberate trespassing cannot be ruled out. Illegal immigration is a phenomenon that cannot be stopped no matter what you do. Be it US-Mexico border or Indo-Bangladesh, there will always be a tendency of moving into a place where somebody thinks he/she will get a better job or better source of earning.

Assam and West Bengal has a healthy population of Bangladeshis who either immigrated in 1971, or later. Locals will always see the immigrants as invaders of/threat to the local community. Such clashes will always be there, until both countries develop equally. If Bangladesh's economy grows, you might see a reversal of the same phenomenon.

And you have rightly pointed out, nothing to be mad about.

If your logic is taken into consideration then the outcome is that your border force is a ******* joke

Try to pick some Chinese from China boarder for a change.

Hiding behind the CHINESE doesn't change the FACT!!!!

They don't try to pole vault our borders & indulge in drug trafficking & other crimes.

& before you bring out the recent border issue with the Chinese, i want to make it clear that it was in the disputed region, if you claim that Chinese incursions were within what India perceive as it's borders, than i can also say that India regularly patrol & built infrastructure in the area PERCEIVED by Chinese as there's.

So it's a two way theory not the one way u like to see.

Thanks for your CHEERLEADING anyways.

Again, Great Work by BSF, They make India PROUD
