DHAKA: Bangladesh got membership in United Nations special Education Initiatives.
Earlier, UN secretary general Ban ki-Moon formed an Education Initiatives consisting of 10 head of the governments from developing and developed countries.
In recent, Ban proposed Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as member of the country as Bangladesh achieved huge success in education sector.
On May 25, education minister Nurul Islam Nahid made a courtesy call on UN deputy secretary General Dr Asha Rose Migiro at the laters office.
Dr Asha praised Bangladesh for achieving progress in education sector while Nahid informed the UN deputy secretary general about steps and reforms taken by the government in education sector. Especially he highlighted different achievements in primary and secondary level as positive feedback of stipend for girl such as development of quality of education, progress of rate of girl students admission in schools.
He informed Dr Asha that Bangladesh has already achieved 99 percent MDG of 2015 in boys and girls students admission in primary and secondary level.
A total of 2.32 crore textbooks have been distributed in this year from class one to ten. It will be increased to 2.70 crore in next year.
Bangladesh Permanent representative to UN also Ambassador Dr AK Abdul Momen and Permanent Missions economic minister Md Najibur Rahman attended the meeting.
