Benapole, June 21 (bdnews24.com) — As a mark of good will, India has handed over Bangladesh two cannons used in the Liberation War.

The cannons were delivered to Bangladesh authorities through Benapole border on Tuesday noon, customs commissioner Abdul Mannan Sikder told bdnews24.com.

A 12-strong team, led by Major Aria, commander of the 12th battalion under the Indian army's artillery force, represented India, while artillery force commander of Jessore cantonment Major Morshed led the home side at the programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Major Aria said the first artillery unit of Bangladesh was formed at Konaban of India with six cannons, including these two.

Though not useable now, the cannons would be preserved as a historic mark of the Liberation War.
