Bangladesh army chief to visit India next week.

NEW DELHI: India will roll out the red carpet for Bangladesh army chief General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan when he comes visiting next week, as part of the stepped up defence ties between the two countries. Gen Bhuiyan, who will lead a delegation to India from April 1 to 4, is slated to hold talks with defence minister A K Antony, national security advisor Shivshankar Menon, IAF chief Air Chief Marshal N A K Browne, Army chief General Bikram Singh and Navy chief Admiral D K Joshi.

Both ACM Browne, who is also the chairman of the chiefs of staff committee, and Gen Singh had visited Dhaka last year as part of the overall policy to boost military ties with Bangladesh, a country where China has been making strategic inroads like many others in India's neighbourhood. India, of course, is also keen to work together with Bangladesh on the terrorism front.

The Indian armed forces are working towards "building capacity'' of the Bangladesh military, ranging from training and exercises to military supplies and technology. The Army also has been holding direct staff-to-staff talks with its Bangladeshi counterpart since 2009.

is he already on the payroll of RAW or this will be the meeting to make it happen? :D

Guy's more pro-USA. Desert Storm veteran. Very popular guy in the army.

What has BDians got to say on this?

Eh? Its pretty normal considering the Indian Army chief visited Bangladesh last year.

Good development. Indian Army should assist BD Army in every possible way. Similarly RAW should also try to form a good relationship with DGFI/NSI, if they haven't done it already.

Come on!! Our people may not enjoy both your jokes. Do you really tink, BA needs Indian assistance? Mukti training is a long bygone matter, never to be repeated. However, military officers from both countries take training in the other country.

OK fine man. I stand corrected. Hope BD Army assists Indian Army if that helps satisfy your ego.

1. Except sending officers for training in each others military institutions, there is no other association between the two armed forces. BD perceives India to be the top potential threat to her national security, as such beyond these courses association with Indian military is avoided.

2. This is a bad time for the Chief to be going abroad - that also to India. Could Hasina be planning what Nawaz Sharif had planned for Mush? Iqbal Karim is known to have refused Hasina's instruction for army involvement in the current political feud.
Next man, Gen Moinul is known to be pro-BAL and pro-India.

before the elections GoI has timed it perfectly.. keep his bank balance up and up and in no time BAL will come back to power again !
