Memon: Arms brought from other provinces to Karachi - Pak Observer
Sunday, June 23, 2013 - Karachi—Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Enam Memon said that the ammunition being used in Karachi was manufactured elsewhere and was brought in the city from Punjab and other provinces. The Excise police had recently captured a large shipment of the ammunition, which was being transported to the city from Punjab. Other provinces should also hold the responsibility for bringing improvement in city’s law and order situation by taking steps for the prevention of transpiration of the illegal weapons to the city.
He was talking to the newsmen after the assembly session Saturday. He said that the government had to give a policy and deploy officers of good reputation. The Chief Minister did not have the responsibility to carry arms for the eradication of the crime but he had to give a policy, which the authorities concerned should follow in letter and spirit so as to ensure peace and tranquility.
He said that the provincial authorities were executing their assigned responsibilities amicably and it was imperative that the Judiciary had also to work diligently.
The Minister said that the criticism on the provincial government and the CM was not justified because the CM had given a free hand to the Sindh Police Chief and DG Rangers to deal with the criminals with an iron hand.
He said that the provincial government had in previous tenure arrested hundreds of criminals and target killers and had also nabbed the killers of MQM MPA Syed Manzar Imam, which cases were in courts.
He asked the members of the provincial assembly belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League to disclose why the provincial government of the PMLN had failed to eliminate the terrorism in their province while they had got the opportunity to rule the province twice. He said that the weapon and ammunition was shipped to the city from Punjab and other provinces and in recent days, the Excise Police had foiled a plot of terrorism by capturing a large cache of illegal arms, which was from Punjab. He said that he did not allege the Punjab government for the transportation of illegal weapons but wanted the Punjab government to secure its borders so that the illegal transportation of arms and ammunition should be checked.
