The Indian Air Force (IAF) is in the final stages of acquiring 22 heavy-duty Apache helicopters, armed with Hellfire and Stinger missiles. The 22 AH-64 D Apache Longbow gunships will be bought in a $1.4 billion contract.

ET takes a look at 8 cool facts about the combat helicopters that will enhance IAF's defence capabilities:

In pic: A US flies above a US M2A3 Bradley infantry fighting vehicle at the US Army's Rodriguez Live Firing Range in Pocheon, about 46 km (28 miles) northeast of Seoul and about 15 km (9 miles) south of the demilitarized zone separating the two Koreas in this file photo taken September 1, 2011.

The radar-equipped AH-64D Apache Longbow has longer-range weapons accuracy and all-weather/night fighting, claims Boeing.

According to Boeing the AH-64D Apache Longbow is capable of classifying and threat-prioritization of up to 128 targets in less than a minute.

Boeing claims that the helicopters boast of integrated sensors, networking, and digital communications for situational awareness, management of the combat arena in real time, and digital transmission of images and target locations to joint operations battlefield commanders.

Fitted with air-to-air missiles, an Apache helicopter has the capability to take on enemy choppers and UAV, providing support to ground troops.

With its array of modern electronics, Apache is considered to be one of the most advanced combat helicopters.

Capable of detecting 256 moving targets and engaging them, the twin-engine Apache is operated by two pilots.

Another cool fact - IAF is getting AH-64D Block III which is now known as the AH-64E Apache Guardian.

I don't see the radar on top of some of the photos? Are India getting the ones without the radar?
