China to US: NSG is not going to be Obama's going away gift to India

BEIJING: China on Monday said admission of non-NPT signatories in NSG cannot be a "farewell gift" for countries to give to each other, a day after the outgoing Obama administration asserted that Beijing was an "outlier" in the efforts to make India a member of the elite nuclear club+ .

"Regarding India's application to the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), regarding non-NPT countries admission to the NSG, we have made our position clear before so I will not repeat it," Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying told a media briefing here, reacting to remarks by US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, Nisha Desai Biswal, on the issue.

"Clearly there is one outlier that needs to be addressed and that is China," Biswal had said on India's NSG membership bid.

"I just want to point out that NSG membership shall not be some kind of (a) farewell gift for countries to give to each other ," Hua said, taking a dig at the Obama administration.

China has been blocking India's membership bid for the 48-member grouping despite backing from majority members on the grounds that India is not a signatory to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty (NPT).

China is advocating a two-step approach for admission of countries who have not signed the NPT.

As per the new stand announced by Beijing, it first wants to find a solution that is applicable to the admission of all non-NPT countries followed by discussions on admitting specific nations.

Besides India, China is also interacting with Pakistan on the issue as Islamabad, too, applied for NSG membership after India.

Well said, China. Double standards won't cut it on this one I'm afraid.

But Indians all over the place were claiming that they will eventually get the membership by the end of 2016 but now its already 2017 ?

Well of course they expected to get the NSG seat in 2016, after all their sold their sovereignty to America (by signing the LEMOA) in order to get that seat.

And they consider Westerners to be some sort of deities, they thought there was no way that a non-Western country like China would be able to say no to them.

Shocking revalation for them. But it won't change their mindset, instead of asking China for support they are trying to poke China instead. They don't seem to understand the fact that us non-Aryans (at the bottom/outside of their caste system like NE Indians) can have veto power too.

Another example of Indias failed foreign policy

China should be applauded for its mature stance.

NSG was created as a result of India's misuse of civil nuclear technology provided by international community, i.e., CANDU reactors, for military purposes. Blindly accepting India into the NSG despite India being a non-NPT state is reckless.

Worse still, India has deceived the world community repeatedly in the past when it comes to military use of nuclear technology. We aren't superior brother. We are just humans like everyone else. Too bad Indians see us (as well as NE Indians) at the bottom/outside of the caste system, while Aryans from outside India are at the top.

That's why they thought America alone could get them the NSG seat and the UNSC seat, they never even bothered to ask China for our support on the issue. The way Indians see it, Westerners can do anything.

Very true. India is conducting foreign policy base on their caste system. We can call it caste based foreign policy. So white Western countries are Aryan high caste countries. East Asians are lump together with Dalits and NE tribals as untouchables.

Both assertions are incorrect. Whites wouldn't be high caste either.

According to Hinduism, high caste is earned. By becoming a doctor, teacher, scientist, engineer etc or by joining the police, army etc earns you a high caste status.

You are an 'untouchable' if all you want to do in your life is waste it away. Because then all you will get is menial tasks which end up making you an untouchable. And because you wasted a precious chance at life, that many don't get, you will be punished in the afterlife.

That's the basic rule anyway.

And you are wrong about the west being Aryan also. Hitler wanted Germans associated with the Indian race for his own goals because of India's rich ancient history. The western theory of an Aryan race has been dismissed. Aryan is not a race.

Anyway, the current caste system was created by the British.

What a pathetic country which assumes it is next super power with out realising that it is just a market economy.

It is India that is going to be a strong country with influence.
