They are in power at the city level, sindh governor is from their party. Back in the days, like 2-3 decades ago they were popular for they talked about the rights of muhajir people but then they got into all sorts of nasty businesses, gained support of Indian RAW and evolved to become a mafia with ruthless criminals.

Target killing is used to silence their enemies and culture of fear used to establish their authority. People supported them for ethnic reasons but they did not prove to be better than any other party of Pakistan.

Moreover, extortion, murder, fear, all this became order of the day. Now rangers is taking care of the city and a lot has been changed.
