And yet after all this so-called Make in India progress ,600 million indians are still dirt poor and live in the most abject, inhumane conditions.

Indians should remain grateful to their new master US for their assistance & as highest recipient of 66$ billion dollars of foreign aid to India. Indian economic aid is spread out over various sectors and programs, including child survival and health, development assistance, HIV/AIDS initiatives, migration and refugee assistance, food aid, and narcotics control" Unquote Simply put India has these problems & hasn't done anything to tackle it in the 66 year period.

Eye opener statistical compilation....India biggest aid receiver ever. The value for money ally in military aid, despite not being in the list, is Pakistan. Should Pak continue to 'Do more'?

When India got independence it was one of the poorest countries in the world , thanks in part to colonialism. It was beset by famine and penury. It was also the second most populous country in the world.

What needs to be seen is how far the country has come in the decades since. It started refusing aid as early as the 80s and is now a net donor. There are other countries in our region that continues to need even more aid 7 decades after independence - that shows how badly these countries have been run and how many mistakes they have made....they are really in no position to throw stones...(if they had brains).

As for China, it had some of the worst famines under Mao's cultural revolution. At one time Chinese were selling their children to put food on the table, there are even references to canabalism during that time (Good Earth by Peal Buck tells that story). Mao did not allow news of it to come out and it is only later on that the actual scale of this terrible tragedy on the Chinese people became known.

These are all sad historical facts, it is daft and insensitive to use these to have yet another d!ck measuring contest!

What kind of Super Power India is going to be who takes highest ever aid, have you seen the teeming poverty around you, having nuclear weapons does no make India, Pakistan or North Korea a super power.

2/3 of India’s population lives below poverty level, rampant corruption, dilapidated dwellings with no indoor running water or toilets even for female residents, congested, polluted and dilapidated roads and other infrastructure. Above all uncontrollable population growth is not the hall mark of a country going to be a super power. Look at some of the countries in South Asia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore or in Europe Denmark, Austria and Norway are smaller well to do countries but they are not striving to become some pseudo super power. Don’t compare yourself to Pakistan, Iran, Bangladesh or Afghanistan, these are the countries which should do better economically than they are doing.

Kashmir is an internationally recognized disputed territory and India can’t keep the humanity there shackled up for ever, India should allow the international press in Kashmir so they can tell us how the majority of the people feel for being subjugated by India’s security forces which has killed more then 100,000 people and Raped their women folks in the last 12 years. Why India is so afraid to allow the world press in Kashmir? These are not the signs to become so called super power. Take care of your poverty and alleviate the suffering of the masses and that goes for Pakistan and surrounding countries.
