Are you sure about small payload part ?
they are not supposed to be used in B-52 role . if they can carry 8 hell-fire like missile that drone would be a worry to any army.

well that's a waste of the potential .if the missile will only lock up to 2.5km why not make it only fly up to 3km instead of 5km and build it so it weight less and cost less and give each unit more missile

1000 kg Predator MALE UAV carries only 2 hellfire missiles.

Javelin and Spike have high range thanks to lofted efficient trajectory. U wont save much weight if reduce engine but lose much speed.

Well predator is fairly old but if you look at it instead of 2 hellfire it can carry
4 × AIM-92 Stinger (MQ-1B)
6 × AGM-176 Griffin air-to-surface missiles

Also predator is more like 500kg than 1000kg and I believe a better example would be reaper.

Predator is 1000 kg. Reaper is much heavier and expensive. Both are very vulnerable even to ancient SAMs like SA-2 or 3.

Well that 1000 kg is after it was loaded not the drone . and an empty mq9 is about 2.5 ton .but it can carry a lot more.
By the way even an mq1 with 6 Griffin can do a lot of damage .
