Stay on Raheel Sharif

ISLAMABAD: Banners requesting Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif not to retire on the expiry of his tenure in November this year have cropped up in the capital, though the army chief has announced that he was not interested in getting an extension.

The chief organiser of the campaign, Ali Hashmi, claimed that as many as 5,000 banners had been displayed in different cities of Punjab and Islamabad.

“The campaign has been started by a political party, ‘Move on Pakistan’, which was established three years ago with Mohammad Kamran, a businessman from Faisalabad, as its chairman. We have been working for education, health and peace,” Mr Hashmi told Dawn.

“Mr Sharif’s services for bringing peace in Karachi, Fata and Balochistan demand that he should stay as the army chief. Moreover, he speaks against corruption which is a biggest issue of the country. We believe that extension should be given to him because only he can address Pakistan’s issues,” he said.

“We had thought that political parties will urge the army chief to stay but they didn’t. So we came forward and now are going to intensify the campaign,” he said.

“Soon a press conference will also be held in which we will formally request the army chief not to retire. Moreover, we are also running a campaign on social media to convince the army chief to change his decision,” Mr Hashmi said.

However, defence analyst Amir Rana says,“This kind of campaigns cannot change such an important decision.” He said the Pakistan army had made it clear that the present policies would continue even after the retirement of General Raheel Sharif.

These Banners are everywhere in Pakistan.... Even many people put banners saying:

General Raheel Ager apne apna faisla wapis na lia to hum suicide kr lein gai

A new term emerge on Pak media...Super Prime Minister. Super PM resolve the issue of PIA today. So, Nawaz has to listen Super PM and heading toward the resolution of PIA stand off. ....And guess who is Super PM.
Nawaz will never give him extension and PPP is also on same boat.

Hypothetically speaking if he goes for the extension and once that expires too, what will these people do then? Really commit suicides? There is no shortage of morons in this country. On one hand they show uncanny allegiance with the institution of army and on the other they have this explicit lack of faith in it's future command.

Many brilliant Generals available and in past just for extension we waist many good Generals in past, Please for God sake don't ruin the only capable institute in Pakistan. Select and promote generals only on seniority basis.

Let him go with dignity and pride.

Don't know much about Pak army system , but in US have observed , Gen automatically get extension if he is on some prime operation .

Let the system work properly as per SOP especially when it is about the most respect institute, The Military. There are more in line with ability to carry on the past project with dedication and so also it wouldn't be wrong to say that current COAS has set an example and trend for new comers. COAS must have trained a team that among them any senior eligible will be capable to do things so it is not the end but just a start.

The extension may effect the position of COAS as these so called liberals and political leaders with the help of media wouldn't miss a chance or a day to demonize him. So let the Honorable leave with Honour.

My 6th says to me...he will choose to retire in time.....that incident will catapult him to new highs then ever before...in the meanwhile King Nawaz and his family will pluck more flowers in Economy, by buying more costly loans just to refill economy to pay old loans.........In the meanwhile WALI-EHADs (Bilawal, Hamza shahbaz) humiliating stock will soar to new highs (as expected...bcoz son of Snake is definitely a Snake)

that will be the time when our new Shareef will Re-emerge in the Political Scene again after completing his 2 year necessary Job retirement before indulging in Politics

well we have to accept that he is the only hope for this country. it took us about 67 years to get a true COAS and zero sincere politician. God knows when will we get a similar COAS in future.
