UK newspaper 'The Independent' to use 'Bombay' instead of Mumbai as stand against 'Hindu nationalism

Still people may Bombay but officially it would always known as Mumbai .
SS is political party in a democratic nation .If they are ultranationlists then it is their right within constitution .Noone can ask question to them about that .

It will. I still call it Bombay. I can't help it.
But the younger generation, I've noticed calls it Mumbai.

These changes take a generation to come to effect.

Bombay still feels more nostalgic, A chaotic melting pot of colors and people from all over India, Very vibrant.. For some reason Parsis seem to pic prominently when ever Bombay is mentioned.. Mumbai just does'nt have that ring to it :D
 
I hope the independent will also find alternate names for British towns like Bristol ( from the "stow at the bridge". Stow meaning religious gathering place ) . They should find an alternate name for all the Stows and Stowes in the Anglo Saxon world - there must be dozens of them.

How about St Albans, Whitchurch, Axminster - all should be renamed to something more secular. Surely the British should maintain higher standards than ignorant Indians!

How about all the "bur" including towns on England - should they all be renamed to whet the increasingly ridiculous left liberal appetite? Why is "Bury St. Edmonds" not called "all religions are equal town" or something like that?

How about Westbury, Charlbury, Amesbury all named after monasteries? They all need to be renamed!


By putting forward increasingly ridiculous arguments the left liberals are forcing people to ignore everything they say even when some of it is actually quite sensible.

If you cry "wolf" at everything, when the wolf really comes people will ignore you. Indian liberal left- please take note!
 
All the old names were much before the British arrived in Indian subcontinent. In all regional dialects:

1- Cawnpore was Kanhepur
2- Bombay was Mumbadevi shortened to Mumbai
3- Benaras was Varanasi etc

Ask anyone of the old generation (those 80 plus) and when they talk in regional languages, they'll always say the real name out which the colonials couldn't pronounce.

A silly ignorant reporter who has no knowledge of the country he is talking about.

What a pity.

What matters on the ground though is the stance of the governing political party, In this case the local Shiv Sena, And even you're opinion as a Indian but a non Bombay resident isn't worth crap :D

Shiv Sena has roots in here in our state .Of Course Mumbai is a melting pot , even a Malayali business men tried for buying Dawood assets in there.
Mumbaikars means people living in Mumbai and that means Mumbai is a small India ,She has people from every parts of India .One of Mumbai DIG is a Malayali women ,daughter of a well known director Adoor Gopala Krishnan.
So a Sri Lankan can express their opinion in open fora but remember you are not eligible to pass comments about internal matters of India .Guest will be always guest .

Shiv Sena is not the governing political party but BJP .SS is just an ally of BJP .
And SS have presence in entire India.
