What's new

Pakistan has successfully tested RAAD cruise missile

RAAD is not based on Raptor-2 but on South African MUPSOW.
@denel

H-4 and H-2 are actually nothing but Denel Raptor-2 and Raptor-1

IHS Jane's Air Launched Weapons
describes the Ra'ad (also known as the Hatf 8 or Hatf VIII) as "part of Pakistan's wide-reaching strategic missile development programme that includes short-, medium-, and intermediate-range ballistic missiles and ground-launched cruise missiles".

Air Launched Weapons also notes that the Ra'ad bears a resemblance to several proposed South African stand-off weapon projects such as MUPSOW and Torgos, and that Pakistan and South Africa have previously worked together in advanced weapons development. "Kentron (now Denel) has already supplied its Raptor powered glide bomb to the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) and the extension of that relationship to include more advanced weapons would seem to be a logical step," it notes.

So RA'AD is tested from Thunder this time .....
So why don't I see the launch platform in the video ? Is Thunder too shy ?
In all previous tests they showed the launch platform as well.

It is still not confirmed....... just a probability and possibility....... PAF will reveal the details are right time...... or may be we see more tests of RAAD in coming months......

IMO.... subject was the test of RAAD to check developments & capabilities alone. The info regarding test of RAAD with JFT is totally a different subject hence will be shared accordingly.

This should be Ra'ad development path if it wants to survive modern SAM systems

SOM-J is the special variant of SOM family developed for F-35 fighter project. Lockheed Martin and Roketsan signed agreement to export SOM-J to all F-35 costumers.

With new In flight refuelling capability (IFR) Thunder can now load two nuclear or conventional tipped Raad cruise on inner wing pylons instead of fuel tanks.
PAF is expected to start serial production
of IFR capable Block 2 Thunder from mid 2016.
A thunder carrying two Raad missiles won't carry the 1100 litre fuel tanks on each wing, and will rely on refuelling at cruising altitude.
ISPR released the video on 19th January of Raad being tested from Thunder.
The video shows footage recorded by an "underbelly camera" of Raad being dropped from a plane.
Only JF-17 and F-16 carry camera pods capable of recording video.
The mirage Rose III from which Raad has been tested until now, only has Omera type 31 cameras fitted in nose cone which can't record videos and can only take 5 still photos per second.
This Is the first ever evidence of Raad being test fired from JF-17 thunder.
The block II and III thunders also have better stability algorithm and secure data link with Raad.

I agree. Whether it means working with Turkey or South Africa, it would be a good idea to see the Ra'ad line further developed, especially in terms of range extension, RCS reduction, and guided sub-munitions dispension. It would be ideal if its seeker can be modular, hence the inclusion of IIR or active radar would the design double as an AShM too.

Thanks for sharing the info. Export rights are with Turkey and not restricted to NATO nations? I am interested to know if Turkey can export it to Pakistan for non NATO platforms?

But I thought India had torpedoed the european systems for JF 17?

Not sure if France = entire European continent ... :pop:

Germany,Italy,Spain,UK are also Paks defence partners..

Pak built its first IRST pod with Italian help.. An unnamed "European firm" developed another Pod with PAC..

Spainish Defencive systems by Indra equip JF... Communication again European.. Italy being a reliable partner is also offering Vixen AESA etc.. And so on ...

Pakistan and Turkey jointly should developed long range stealth cruise missiles air, land and SA launched.
