What's new

In a first for Pakistan, Lodhi rings NASDAQ's bell to mark independence day

You have fools on both sides. If someone's comment ticked you off, you should also see how many folks from India make similar hateful comments.

Its people like you and a few others who have sane and cool brains, that must never be given into the crazy hateful sentiment that exist on either side.

Pakistan, IMO, should watch how India did what she did since the mid 90's to be where she is in 2 decades. India's economic growth, policies and democratic structure should be a role model for Pakistan.
on a real level, 0 hate from me, but so much trolling here, I'm like "bc behti ganga mein hum bhi.."

but yeah, despite all her many many problems, India does seem to have gotten the world's attention these past couple decades and a bit.. the money guys' anyway.

3 or 4 decades back it was all Pakistan, by a mile too.. think Singapore here for a min, insane economic story, helped quite a bit by the fact that it's only a city state, much easier to handle than a "many cities in many states" state... which is in turn way easier to manage than a "many cities in many states, all with different languages, cultures" situation that is India.. by comparison, Pakistan is a relatively homogeneous society, and a smaller population by numbers.. as a job, I'd take wazir-e-azam over pradhan mantri anyday :P

back to post partition/independence.. sticking with the US had for decades meant Pakistan was better off financially, and had access to all that cutting edge western tech.. Pakistani society was relatively liberal, there was always anti India sentiment, memories of war were fresh, must have been much anger but all still way more civilized than today..

in the 70s etc there was even a hippie trail in Pakistan, much peace, obviously :P ... now there's sharia maniacs chopping people's heads off, for international investors, Pakistan is counted next to Yemen and Iraq security situation wise.

all your advantage, handicap, lead, positives cancelled out and now India looks like winning despite the follow on... I cant place exactly where it all started going wrong for you guys...

was it 9/11 and the ensuing 'war on terror', or was it the Iranian revolution, after which the Saudis went into overdrive spreading "their version"... the shit that's poisoned Pakistani society because of the

1953 Mossadegh coup.. could that be the big one ? :what:

saudis injected you with the wahhabi virus post Shah, then crazy Zia gets hooked to it like it was crystal meth.... then you do the 90's Kashmir intifada in Indian Kashmir, then 9/11 and the plant bears fruit..

of course there is much more nuance to all of those events but that's my timeline of events as I see it...

but I'm also convinced that the Americans have historically generally meant well, like genuinely meant to do good.. but just like a city state is easier to manage than a bigger state that is easier to manage than a billion+ diverse people huge state.. which is easier to manage than the whole planet...

as for me, I just want a strong and prosperous south asia, it's people to flourish, and the violence and hatred to go away... it should leave Pakistan and India and go to Alabama or something :P

Or they could simply privatize pakistani stock exchanges and sell them to the big stock exchange companies like ICE or NASDAQ OMX etc. They know how to run stock exchanges. And they'll know how to get publicity in the right places.

Why should the government privatize our stock exchanges and then sell them to foreigner exchanges, when the system can eventually reform and we can control plus reap the benefits. Pakistan in the first phase of CPEC will double its electricity output, therefore we need to attract companies to manufacture goods in the newly proposed industrial zones to compete with the likes of India, Vietnam, Bangladesh and the Philippines.

A great event indeed that will help Pakistan get a positive platform. Pakistan in the west has a very bad image and such events and speeches will help create a more positive image and also give some confidence to external investors. I am not saying this alone will help but it's a step in the right direction and we need more than a few to really gain an advantage.

The best thing Pakistani news channels can do is pump out positive press. The reason why perception is slow changing is Pakistani media are negative doom merchants.

This is the way to do it. Add some icing to the cake, people of Pakistan do certain "friendly" things that make headlines across the globe. Like Afghanistan named a highway after India, small things like these. When they show this stuff in the American media, slowly but surely, with Pakistan's economy and stock market growing, the notion will change and the Pakistanis will be looked at with respect and courtesy at the same level as a German or an India gets today.

But you, the nation has to develop that image, it won't come automatically, without effort.

I totally agree. I have been harping on about building positive perception through media on here because like you say its the difference from swaying an unsure billionaire investor from pouring his money into the country and not. What he sees or reads during his morning cereal becomes very important and thats where Pakistani media has to take the lead and create positive headlines which capture world attention.

Look at India. Constantly pushing out good news for the world to digest and creates positive perceptions and connotations and investment is pouring in.

All the Pakistani news channels have to do is spend time on looking for good stories or even set up false flag events to promote. Just anything to get the investor to commit. Nations elevate from 3rd world mindset when they start seeing the bigger picture and engaging in this kind of behavior. I am watching the clock waiting till Pakistan evolves to do the same.

Well said. In this case, frankly speaking, the US till date and since her alliance with Pakistan 70 years ago, has been providing constant assistance to Pakistan. Unfortunately, incompetent people for their own benefit, would blame a few incidents on the US, while they'll forget the remainder of 70 years of history.

Pakistani media can start some small things here and there, which constantly show the help that the US has provided. The PEOPLE also need to realize that the US is still their friend and a pretty powerful friend, who can do a lot for Pakistan, if shown proper alliance. This isn't a time when you can act silly and jingoistic and not get the help you easily can get, which would elevate Pakistan's economy much beyond where it is today. That would then help a huge population of 200 million people. Totally worth it!

There are requirements, yes. SEC requires you to adopt certain accounting standards and publish reports and there's other requirements. But you don't register a company in the USA.

Take a look at how alibaba is structured. It's not registered in the USA as a company. It's a company registered in cayman islands which owns a blah blah blah which leads to indirect ownership of what they have in china. And it's listed on NYSE. Look it up.

By the way, if I ever go to NYC, I'll make sure to drop by at your shawarma stand on wall street. <<<<< I also know how to be rude, you're not the only one.

Here's the moronic response!!! Here's your Ali Baba's AMERICAN office you idiot!!! What a waste of time and effort to educate anti-Pakistani haters. Yea, sure, come to my Shawarma stand, I have a few brothers working for me, they'll shove that Shawarma in actual place it needs to go. It'll hurt, a lot too. But we'd be glad to "serve you"!!!!

Click on the following link, it even has their INDIAN offices too, now you need a Shawarma from one of your Indian brothers, ofcourse all veggie, will probably hurt much less!!!!

what happened to dossiers? ganti baja ke chale ayye?

They came back as your Modi didn't want to "officially" receive the dossiers of your cousins sitting in RAW, doing terrorism inside Pakistan, their details and profiles. Thieves who don't have the balls to face the reality, ALWAYS run and hide!! As always Ball-Less behavior. True leaders would come, sit down with the other side, and talk things out till they are resolved on both ends. Fake leaders, run away from the actual issue, go around on dates with Arab prince, complain about Pakistan and are sent back home. They make a few statements and life goes on.

Modi's internal ratings are slipping just as bad as his external ratings are away from the actual map. Too much talk, internally and externally. He hasn't delivered to his own people so far. All you see is Hindtva drama, that's it.

The Congress needs to fill the Vacuum in leadership and introduce some sane leaders who can help your country move ahead. It's slowing down on all ends!! Modi's a good anchor for a Hindu-only show, that's it. Can't run a country like India and you can see his internal ratings taken by the people!!

They don't need it.

When you buy Alibaba stock, you buy stock in a cayman islands company Alibaba Holding. That holding company probably has a US company which runs that office. But that is not needed. They have it not because they need to have it to be listed, they have it for their operations inside USA.

Take a look at NYSE: ATHM. Check if they have a US office. They don't.
