Sanctions on Iran pipeline project still there, says US

Dear US FEARS MORE FROM RUSSIA AS COMPARE TO IRAN YET RUSSIA AND EU PIPELINE NEVER CAME ANY THREAT BUT DEAL IS DONE WITH IRAN THAN WHAT USA HAS PROBLEUM WIITH PAK IRAN PIPELINE

Well said bhai jaan

BTW chahbahar may not be that useful for trade with Iran.

Please see where most of Iranian population is and their road and rail network is. Perhaps Bunder Abbas or some other port is much more useful. Just saying. I have not done detailed study on Iranin port usage.

peace

I agree....The most effective way of trade with West is through land border of Pakistan...But i am not sure in my generation( I am not as such old either..) i can able to see it. I think that is why India put a bait on Chabbar...At least something is better than nothing kind of arrangement to trade independently with Afganistan, Iran to some extent Central Asia...It is the not the best way to do it..But India does not have any other option either...

It's all about contain China, US foreign policy now is pretty much China centric, how pathetic...

you know the total population of CIS?
then add Afghanistan in it.

And you will get the same numbers as few large cities of Pakistan (and CIS combined has much less purchasing power.)

Bharati planners are missing forest for few trees.

Sadly

I hope Pakistan shows US the middle finger on this one .

Just like it showed Saudia on Yemen coalition .

Sometime i also think and get surprised...what is so fuss about the Central Asia that every one is talking about...They are not even so developed nations like our neighours Pakistan,Sri Lanka and BD economy combined...But i am not sure man..I just see all these news and reports..so i created a perception...If any one knows anything more, they are welcome to publish it..

those were underhand deals. Nothing international. 99% Indian banks do not and cannot do business with Iran.

Just check the facts. Only 1 bank is allowed and even it cannot send money directly.

Chahbahar port is most likely based on "barter trade". Such things cannot be stopped by existing international sanctions.

Heck that kind of trade goes on between Pakistan and Iran.

Peace

p.s. you are obviously have been hit by info-warrriors from Bharat,.
We are going in circles so let's just agree to disagree shall we? You Sir are nitpicking every other detail but the fact that India did get the waiver and so did China. Now you can spin it anyway you like but it's not going to change that while Pakistan continue to be shackled because of the non commitment and seriousness of the successive regimes including Nawaz Sharif, more so because he does not want to upset Saudis others are doing business just fine.
Let me play your card and say US is just an excuse used by the government. Inreality it's the Sauds Nawaz does not want to piss.

Conspiracy theories again,

If we had 8 billion dollars laying around, we could do what China and India doing.

Cash / barter business can be done win extreme circumstances,

But us Pakistanis love to believe in conspiracy Saudi theories.

Sanctions on Iran pipeline project still there, says US
THE NEWSPAPER'S CORRESPONDENT— UPDATED about an hour ago

WASHINGTON: The Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project will not yet benefit from the nuclear agreement that may ease economic sanctions on Tehran, says the US State Department.

On July 14, the United States and five other world powers signed a deal with Iran, which would end international economic sanctions on Tehran if it abandoned its nuclear weapons programme.

Tariq Fatemi, the prime minister’s special adviser on foreign affairs, told a think-tank in Washington last week that Pakistan welcomed the deal because it would open the doors for economic cooperation with Iran, including the construction of a pipeline to bring natural gas for the energy-starved South Asian nation.

Take a look: Tehran nuclear deal revives hope for Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline

Asked to comment on Mr Fatemi’s statement, a State Department spokesman Mark Toner said the lifting of sanctions for commercial deals with Iran had not started yet.

“We don’t consider Iran open for business yet, and there’s no new sanctions relief beyond the very limited relief under the joint plan of action that’s been in place since January 2014,” he said. “When Iran meets its key nuclear steps and we get to implementation day, then there will be commensurate relief of nuclear-related sanctions.”

The US official said that he would not offer “specific opinion” on “various possible future economic relations or economic deals or whatever, business deals.”

But “should those conversations progress to any transactions or other activities that are still sanctionable prior to implementation day, then we’ll continue to fully implement and enforce our sanctions,” he added.

Replying to another question, Mr Toner said the United States had close counter-terrorism cooperation with India, and supported New Delhi’s demand for bringing those to justice who were responsible for the Mumbai terrorist attacks.

“Our hearts go out to the victims of that attack and we want to see justice served, obviously, and we want to see the perpetrators brought to justice,” he said.

Pakistani gov baboos and our media has been telling Pakistanis what they want to hear. Doesn't matter if it is truth or not,

Hi,

Pakistan was already counting the money from the gas pipeline from iran---that is why it refused to join the arabs in yemen----.

So---what if the sanctions are not lifted----this screw up would be royal.

Gas pipeline maybe only one of several reasons for why Pakistan did not join KSA against Yemen. It is obvious that even if the sanctions were lifted, it would take at least 3 years for things to get settled and projects begin. Additionally, situation in Balochistan is still not stable and unless plans are to run the pipeline underground, I dont get how the security of the pipeline will be ensured.

Hunooz dilli door ast is what describes the Iran - Pakiatan gas pipeline project and benefits that maybe reaped from it.

There's not much to trade with. The market segment is not developed enough to warrant so much trouble. But knowing India's far-reaching vision for itself and China's rapid engagement with CIS, I'm voting for minerals. Trillions of dollars worth of minerals.

@FaujHistorian, your thoughts?
