Geelani opposes Pak’s merger bid of Gilgit-Baltistan - says it belongs to Jammu and Kashmir

If Geelani Sahab genuinely cared for the people of Gilgit Baltistan as fellow "Kashmirs" then he should respect their wishes. Unfortunatly Kashmiri seperatists will insist that the people of GB are the same as them even though they have pretty much nothing to do with Kashmir and were forced to become part of the erstwhile princely state of Kashmir by the Hindu Dogras. The people of GB want pronvicial status for their region within Pakistan. Unfortunatly their happiness it seems is too much to ask for from these seperatists who continue to see the people of GB as Kashmiris despite the people of GB insisting they are not.

The kashmir issue is about the whole princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. This is something I have been re-iterating when ever I post anything about this issue.
Pakistan cannot selectively read even the UN resolution on Kashmir (which if Pakistan still feels India must follow also) then Pakistan should vacate and hand over all the terroritories of J&K including Gilgit Baltistan back to India. Without this step no other further steps can be taken and referendum is believe me it almost at the end of this process.

India should push Pakistan to return back these areas. These are strategic areas and will link India wil central Asia. We should try everything to get these areas back.....

Actually, if this goes ahead it is entirely in India's favour. It will effectively make a plebiscite compliant with the UN resolution impossible. This is one more step towards a status-quoist solution to Kashmir, which suits India fine.

If these moves to grant provincial status to GB goes through,it will be a great setback to the separatists cause and may also give India the stimulus to delink Ladakh from Kashmir citing variable ethnicity and religion.

If GB merge with pakistan their whole case on kashmir is gone so fun times ahead:pop:

Jammu too my friend.

I think it would be in India's interest if GB becomes a state of Pakistan.

It would weaken the cause of Independent J&K & set a precedent which would help amend the constitution .

This merger I feel is linked to the Chinese investments & creation of road upto Gwadar.

Too early to be guessing. Pakistan state will provide special status and etc, etc. Maybe a proper constitutional status too, won't make it a province, lets see.

Just do it pakistan....then we can revoke article 370 and merge j&k to mainstream India and put this separatism to rest and settle this Kashmir issue once and for all!!
go Pakistan!

The legal position is simply this: Gilgit-Baltistan was part of the Princely State of Kashmir; therefore by legal logic.... Gilgit-Baltistan is also thus a part of the disputed territory, you attempt to detach, it the dispute then falls into the dust.
Now handle that Conundrum! :D
