Pakistan must allow Afghanistan direct trade access to India through Wagah: Ghani

Can't you people debate without bringing in childish insults that result in abuse?

Would you allow Pakistani trucks using Indian roads to transport goods to Myanmar ?

sure why not? I have no problem giving pakistan access to myanmar and BD if you are willing to pay for it.

My Geography is weak and Bangy opened a hitherto unseen fact to me.

Pakistan needs to go THROUGH Afghanistan to reach CAR? So all this time they were crowing on the piggyback of a sovereign neighbor?

P.S. @Bang Galore woah! I just looked at the map. Cut off Afghanistan from Pakistan and you cut off Pakistan from CAR!!!!! ha ha ha ha ha ha ha :enjoy::tup::lol:

there is the china route into tajikstan, i believe.

Demanding “sovereign equality”, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said Pakistan must allow his country

WTF. Mr. Ghani we are not your servants and you are not sitting in your presidential palace, you are referring to a sovereign state who fed millions of your population for decades, who saved your butt against Russian invasion, and who is guarantor to your country's peace if you stop with your venom and violence against us. So show some respect when you refer to Pakistan. And yes Don't forget "Chahbahar kay rastay may bhi Pakistan he parta hai" so stop TC of India and get back in line. Idiot.

Here it is from the horses mouth in an interview on The Hindu with none other than Suhasni Haider.

I guess Ghani sab like his nation forgets Pakistanis have accorded Afghans 68 years of access to Pakistani ports without access to Central Asia.

Article here, excerpts below:

One of the subjects both you and PM Modi mentioned was the possibility of India being included in, or be a beneficiary of the Afghanistan Pakistan Transit and Trade Agreement (APTTA). How is that realistic, given that Pakistan has opposed the trade from Afghanistan to India directly, i.e. to Attari since the agreement was signed in 2011?

Regional cooperation requires a legal free-flow of goods and people. We are not asking Pakistan for any exceptional treatment. We are asking Pakistan for “national treatment”. Pakistani trucks come all the way to Attari. Why should Afghan trucks stop at Wagah? It’s a major cost for that distance, to load, unload and re-load. It is an incredible imposition on the cost of business. Sovereign states deal with sovereign equality. If we are not given equal transit access, then we will not provide equal transit access to Central Asia.

Is that something you have taken up with the Pakistani leadership?

Yes. We are clear. In our talks with the Commerce Minister of Pakistan (Khurram Dastgir) we have made it clear that it needs to be reciprocal. Relations between countries, especially when it comes to business, if there were significant reasons, if we had not accorded national treatment to Pakistani trucks, then we could have understood.

That's a funny offer. This is Afghanistan asking you to give it access to India if you want access to central asia. Pakistan has no ability to give access to central asia on its own, it's merely one of the countries. Without Afghanistan, Pakistan itself has no access to central asia.

Btw, get rid of this silly notion in your head that anyone in India will negotiate on Kashmir to get access to central asia. That will never happen,

I think the person you quoted is either immature or a troll.

Well in the future, yes it should. But as of present, we don't want Afghan illegals crossing the border in containers.

Pakistan can't afford immigrants, specially the illegal ones. We're already full. No trade route for you until you learn to coexist with each other and fix your country that you have turned into a massive shithole.

Pakistan must allow Afghanistan direct trade access to India through Wagah: Ghani - The Express Tribune

Demanding “sovereign equality”, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said Pakistan must allow his country direct access to India through Wagah border in Lahore.

At present, Pakistan allows Afghan trucks carrying goods meant for India only up to its last checkpoint at Wagah and not to the Indian checkpoint at Attari which is just less than a kilometer away.

Ghani, in an exclusive interview to Indian newspaperThe Hindu, warned that if the deadlock continues, Afghanistan will not provide equal transit access to Central Asia for Pakistani trucks.

The Afghan president, who is in India on his first state visit, said Pakistan must accept the “national treatment” clause agreed to in the Afghanistan Pakistan Transit and Trade Agreement (APTTA), signed in 2011, which gives each country equal access up to the national boundaries of both.

On Tuesday, Ghani met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and called for regional cooperation to defeat violent extremist groups.

Islamic State

The Afghan president said the Islamic State has challenged countries from “India to Russia” and that the regional countries must united to end the menace.

Ghani said the IS threat was different from that posed by groups such as the Taliban, which wanted to “overthrow the state”.

“Now the prize is not the state, it is destruction. Our territory is being made the battleground. Our people are being killed brutally to show a spectacle. We all need to mobilise as a region,” he said.

He, however, denied downplaying threat from groups such as the Lashkar-e-Taiba and the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, saying the “drivers have changed”.

If he wants trade with India he needs to work with Iran on transit rights

That I know about (chicken-neck).

My point is, Afghanistan is closer racially to Iran than Pakistan. Minus the Sunni-Shia thing, they are almost brothers.

Afghanistan does not need Pakistan. Pakistan absolutely needs Afghanistan. Cause I do not see them getting anywhere with Iran.

Now we are very well placed with both Iran and Afghanistan. Iran route is costly for us. Obviously overland route through Pakistan would be better. But that could be true for transient transport. Not for fixed assets like pipelines which would then always be hostage to the vagaries of Pakistani mood swings and jihadist elements.

If Afghanistan blocks Pakistan, Pakistan will have to allow India. No other way short of a Pakistani invasion of Afghanistan.

there is the china route into tajikstan, i believe.

Same reason it would be unviable commercially and logistically as Iran would be for India. More so because of the terrain.

For us its only a longer sea route. Money. And to a lesser extent, time.

Hahahahah keep dreaming ..
open your eyes and feel the reality. our elders paid with their lives and now you have to ask premission even from sky ..

Build Chabar port do what ever is necessary. Pakistan must do what ever it takes to counter India in Afghanistan. It all comes down to how long this will be sustained, if chabar port is a ace in your sleeve play it lets see what depths of hell we go into to.

Afghan goods can have access to India through Pakistan - one way route only ;) India doesn't have a "market" on the eastern side which it could "offer" in exchange - so India doesn't qualify.

Or on the funny note; no route access to India unless they complete LCA bock-III :azn:
