Stacey Eden: Young woman sticks up for Muslim family being 'racially abused' on train in shocking footage

In the video, Stacey Eden, 23, is heard saying: "Shut your mouth if you've got nothing nice to say"

This is the moment a brave young woman intervened to stop a commuter allegedly racially abusing a Muslim family on a train.

Stacey Eden, 23, filmed the altercation this week as an elderly female is heard bad mouthing Islam to a woman wearing a hijab.

The commuter, dressed in red, allegedly called the Muslim woman an ISIS supporter as she sat opposite with her partner and a baby in their pram.

In the footage, filmed in Sydney, Australia, Stacey intervened and is heard saying: "What's it got to do with this poor lady? That's not her doing it, that's a minority of people all over the world.

Accused: This woman is believed to have slated the Muslim woman sitting opposite

"She wears it for herself because she wants to be modest.

"It's got nothing to do with you. Have some respect, shut your mouth, if you've got nothing nice to say then don't say anything."

Stacey, from Australia, uploaded the footage to Facebook where it quickly went viral.

Underneath the clip, she wrote: "So I sat there for a good 10 minutes before i started recording this.

"While I listened to this woman bad mouth Muslims and call the lady sitting opposite me an ISIS supporter because she wore a scarf.

"Then she told me to go join ISIS because i was sticking up for her.

Victim: The Muslim woman was sat with her family

"People like this make me sick. People who are so ignorant and disrespectful to other people who were clearly sitting there minding their own business.

"She was saying some pretty horrible and hurtful things before i spoke up then as soon as I started defending them she stopped.

"People need to stop judging and putting others down over religion!

"Every religion has good and bad but if you take it back to the foundations, every religion is also built on love - to love one another.

"The purpose of religion is to control yourself, not to criticise others."

The video drew praise from Muslims and people of other religions from around the world.

User Mudassar Mumtaz Khokhar wrote: "Thank you. And it was heartening to know that you know why that lady was wearing a scarf. You are awesome."

Ayman Medhat added: "I cant find any words to describe your actions there, God bless you."

Police said they are encouraging witnesses of the incident to come forward.

Nice. This is not a racist attack though. It was based on religion. Let's not be PC.

But she says, the lady was wearing the scarf because she wanted to be modest. The older woman should have shot back that - 'You mean I am not?'

What is worrying is the attached audio of the 'Islamophobia Register Authority' - one that is not authorized to do any of that.

Sydney trains - over priced, overly late and over racist.

Ive seen crap like this before myself back in the early 2000s and it was also an old racist bogan lady.

It was certainly Racist and Ugly. To abuse a family with a baby in public is reprehensible. sadly only this one lady spoke up in their support. Rest of the Australian public in that vehicle seems to be a silent supporter of that Racist woman.

Here is some one wondering why it was made public. :coffee:

Stacey Eden was right to defend a couple against racist abuse, but what was gained by sharing it? - Comment - Voices - The Independent

I don't find it racist. It was a religious abuse. Other brown skinned folks WITHOUT the dress would have not been abused. It is bad, shameful - but it is a religious abuse.

You know what, over the many years, after having seen racism in all its forms, I can guarantee you this person will carry a grudge against other races and minorities. No one can say for certain this woman wouldn't abuse someone who was brown but didn't wear a headscarf. Such people who hold such vile bigoted views, tend to hold them of other people, it's just the flavour of the month for them could be different i.e. Muslims, blacks, Jews and so on.
I must have lost count of the times I have heard someone say they hate one race but are ok with others (when hearing this I usually tell them to walk off a cliff). I've gone on to later find out they have been abusing the very races they were "ok" with. Bigotry is a cancer that gradually affects everything.

Yeah, the hijab was the trigger perhaps. :hitwall: She would have felt disgusted but kept quiet had she been like any other. The silence is pretty common now. Nobody bats an eyelid. Unfortunately.

True, I agree with that.
As for the antics, I'm just wondering how much aboriginal DNA she has in her for to claim ownership of Australia. Probably sweet F all.

Worse, she must have had criminal ancestors. Australia was a penal colony after all. :D

But the lady in hijab and especially the man accompanying her should have said something politely but firmly. They were more amused at the young woman than simply saying that they mean no harm and she is mistaken. The old woman will carry that hate in future. Most of them do it because they have no dialogue with 'the other'. Who knows, may be next time they will.

Lol, the convict thing is used as a tease by many fellow Brits. She doesn't represent Australia anyway, I've met plenty of great Aussies.
I agree about speaking up but i think the couple were very timid and nervous and felt relieved the young lady intervened. Sadly, speaking up can make matters worse, especially if it had been an abusive young male.

Let's not pretend race has nothing to do with this. Discrimination remains the same, it's modis operandai has changed. You''l frequently see neo-nazi groups attend rallies that are "only meant to criticize Islam", and see racist comments being made.

By pretending that her the old woman's motives had nothing to do with race, you are blatantly ignoring history. Even if they didn't have a beard and hijab, I bet the old woman would still harass them.

but let's say that you're right. Those two people were minding their own business, what right did that woman have to harassing them?

You people keep saying politically correct is a bad thing, but you don't even know what political correctness even is.

Typical trash.

Would love to see Asians rightfully claiming back that continent when they have the power.

This happened, on every country and on every level, there are some seriously stubborn folks like this old hack in red, but it almost always balanced out with people like Stacey Eden. There are both in the US, there are both in the UK, in Sweden, Denmark even in China. (Well, I once saw a Chinese Blasted away at a Niger Worker in Chinese Railway back in 2008).

The problem is, no matter how educated a country was, you cannot ask some of your own citizen to be a full retard, that's nearly impossible, but the one thing we can get out of is, we should always see the good side of it, that it there are always someone to balanced out.

Claim what? With Asian not even 11% of total Australian Population. you do know we are kind of picky about who migrate to Australia right? Not ever Joe, Dick and Diamond from Asia can migrate to Australia. The rate it is going, it would take at least about 50 years to double the current Asian population in Australia, which is currently at 2.4 million (out of a 23 million population) with an increase of 3% a year (60,000) per last census in 2011, and Australian government have tight down Immigration quota in 2014.

Let me quote a verse from my famous song from Ronan Keating
-You say it best, when you say nothing at all.
