Saudi Arabia beheads Pakistani for smuggling heroin

Why? You guys got lethal injections, electric chairs, gas chambers and occasionally firing squads and I think that hangings are also an option.

KSA lacks swordsmen. Mostly it's not really a job that many want and it is hereditary and often held by Afro-Arabs.

People point at the US and say "look at all the people who are in jail".
Well guess what...more than 50% are in for drug offenses. Guess how many get executed...0% They serve their short time and quickly do the same old thing.

Maybe if we toughen the penalties and people see a guy with a sword they'll think twice..

Well, the problem of drugs in the US is of a totally different dimension than the one KSA is ever going to face. Correct me if I am wrong but the US is the biggest market for drugs. If you applied death penalty for hard drugs like KSA, China, Singapore, Thailand etc. you could be heavily criticized and your execution rate would increase enormously overnight. Also you have a tradition for appeals and often criminals on death row have to wait 20-30 years (!) before they actually get executed. In KSA and those countries I mentioned your sentence and actual verdict of that sentence arrive much quicker. For good and bad.

Personally I would find it more worrying/terrifying if I were to be executed by a lethal injection (as I have a little phobia when it comes to needles) or an electric chair or gas chamber knowing beforehand that such methods of execution can last for quite a while unlike a beheading with a sword which you barely register.

So I doubt that the prospect of beheadings will scare anyone away from doing crime in the US. The laws are already pretty harsh in certain states already. Texas, Oklahoma etc. comes to mind.

I find decapitation barbaric and feel ashamed that nations still do this in the 21st century

What's barbaric about it? It was used for millenniums throughout the entire world. Europe included. France used it until 35 years ago. Germany used it too in modern times (during the Nazi era).

Did you know that a decapitation was seen as the most honorable death for an aristocrat or person of power? Hangings were shameful though. This was the case in the Islamic world, Europe, Japan etc. The only exception seems to be China.

It's quick, cheap and apparently more or less completely painless. Why waste millions on drugs etc. (lethal injections) when you can do it this way?

Decapitation has been used as a form of capital punishment for millennia. The terms "capital offence", "capital crime", "capital punishment," derive from the Latin caput, "head", referring to the punishment for serious offences involving the forfeiture of the head; i.e., death by beheading.[6] Decapitation by sword (or axe, a military weapon as well) was sometimes considered the honourable way to die for an aristocrat, who, presumably being a warrior, could often expect to die by the sword in any event; in England it was considered the privilege of noblemen to be beheaded. This would be distinguished from a dishonourable death on the gallows or through burning at the stake. In medieval England, the punishment for high treason was to be hanged, drawn and quartered but in the case of nobles and knights it was often commuted to beheading; female commoner traitors were burned at the stake.

In countries where beheading was the usual means of capital punishment, such as in Scandinavia, the noblemen would be beheaded with a sword, symbolizing their class as a military caste, thus dying by an instrument of war, while the commoners would be beheaded with an axe.[citation needed]

However, in some countries such as China, decapitation is considered as a less honourable capital punishment than other ways like the gallows or poisoning because of differing cultural values. For example, Chinese believe that to separate any part of the body from oneself intentionally is disrespectful to his or her ancestors, who have brought the person's life.[citation needed]

What one should rather be ashamed of are the criminals and murderers who force a state/society to take the highest measure possible. If there was no crime there would be no use of executions or punishments. I am pro-execution and many people across the world, including Europe, are this too. I don't consider that barbaric. I find many European laws pathetic in terms of harshness. Especially those here in Denmark.

What I consider barbaric is when murderers escape with 5-10 year long prison sentences and are free to go after they serve that sentence (not even always the full sentence) before they are released. Imagine being the father of a victim and see your murderer out again after such a short time?!

If you are willing to kill another person or do serious crime you should be able to face the consequences. Just like when you screw up elsewhere here in life. Doing a bad job at your work? Well, then you risk getting fired and someone more talented will take your place. Willing to murder people? Well, then be aware of the fact that the state can take your life as well.

Anyway that's just my opinion and I only speak for myself.

P.S: In KSA the victims family can pardon the murderer in exchange of blood money or sometimes without it if they want that to happen and the state will spare him/her.

I hope you accept that death penalty in general and decapitation even more so is unacceptable in europe. Its a taboo. So much that european pharma corporations no longer sell the drugs needed for execution to the USA. Thats why USA has a execution problem now and uses all different kind of drugs and fail with it.

Look i try to see it in that way: we live in the 21st century. We start to conquer space. In a few days a spacecraft from us lands on a comet. We conquer our solar system and beyond. Scientists say in the next 30 years we will have contact with alien life forms. Do we really want to show them an image of ourself that we cut our owns species heads off?

Well now it is. For 99,9% of the known history it was a fundamental part of the society and considered fully normal. You still have millions upon millions of Europeans in every country that want the death penalty introduced for certain crimes. There is still capital punishment in Belarus btw. I know that.

Mate, if there are any aliens out there (which I doubt) then be sure of the fact that they already know that we are a brutal species. State executions or not. One just has to observe what is going on across the world.

It is not normal. I see it as something sick and backwarded, unchristian and i´m glad thats out of europe. And of course Aliens are out there. Someone must be pretty small minded to believe that we are alone in a universe where our own galaxy alone has around 70 billion earth like planets.

Sidequestion: If the day comes that we discover other life forms, would that collide with islam?

There is nothing sick about punishing criminals. What is sick is to allow them a free room by having ridiculous punishments for harsh crimes such as murder etc. There are punishments for a reason. But we won't agree and that's fine. Still does not change the fact that you have millions upon millions of proponents of capital punishment in Europe and the 3 most populous states of the world (home to almost 50% of the world's population) all apply the death penalty. (China, India, USA).

There is no evidence of that. I will wait with the judgements when I see evidence.

What's the position of Christianity?

The pope already said that he believes in extraterrestrial life and that it does not contradict christianity.

And yes there is evidence that life exists evrywhere in the universe. We found evry single thing needed for life already. Why should life only develop on earth but not on 70 billion planets that are similar to earth in our own galaxy alone? That would be scientific nonsense.

As for death penalty, its simply barbaric. We have laws that fight against this barbarism. What when you execute innocents? Dont tell ne rhat does not happen. Some say up to 30% of executions hit innocent people.

jail would be good punishment but execution is not always the selution specially if he was poor and needed money
