KARACHI: A suspicious foreigner has been arrested near Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Headquarters Nine Zero in Karachi.

According to Samaa correspondent, the suspect of Uzbek origin was caught by the local people and later handed over to police.

The arrest came a few days after the MQM senior leader Farooq Sattar told media that the party leadership had been receiving extortion chits and life-threatening phone calls and text messages.

Later, the MQM parliamentarians also wrote a letter to British Prime Minister David Cameron calling for enhanced security for the party chief Altaf Hussain.

Hussain, who is a vocal critic of Taliban militants, has been living in self-imposed exile for the past two decades.

In the letter to Britain PM, Interior Minister and high officials, the party has demanded that extra measures be taken for Altaf Hussain’s security in London.

Iftikhar Alam, a former MQM MPA, told media persons that the suspect offered $100, 000 in return for his release.

He said that the suspected belonged to Nooristan province of Afghanistan and that he had arrived in Karachi from Peshawar today.

He said that the suspect was also carrying literature about banned Tehreek-e-Taliban.
