No, not because of socialism. It's basic consumer principle.

If I have $1000, I may choose wisely to choose an item from $500, $300, and $100 as I will choose the price according to the quality and functionality, so if the $100 item does not deprived so much on the $500, or $200, I will choose the item worth $100 as I will only have $500 if I go for the most expensive one and the best, And if I go for the second best, then that does bnot justified why I did not choose the best. Unless the $100 item is impossible to accept. I will take that item and pocket the $900 change. As that means a lot to me, if I only have $1000 to start with.

However, if I have 10 billions. Still the same principle. If I have to choose an item between 5 billions, 3 billions and 1 billions.
If the quality is according to the price, then I will choose the most expensive one. As even as with the $1000 scenario, I would spend 50% of my money in it. But this time instead of $500 left, I will have 5 billions left, so the quality to price condition does not apply if a person is seriously affordable. That's the same reason you will NEVER see Ferrari and Lamborghini have their car on sale. As people can afford to buy those car would not wait for a sale event to buy them, if you can afford the best, you will pay for the best, that's the consumer and marketing principle.

The Finn can afford the Best, then why settle with the rest?

Finland only have 5 millions or so resident, but with 250 billions GDP, Which is top 41, even ahead of Israel (240 billions 8 millions people). If Israel have money to burn and buy all high tech US weapon, naturally, Finland, with more money and less people would have more money to burn. This is quite logically don't you think?

I am sure this will become the end of SAAB and their expertise should be hired by Muslim countries.

Their Aerospace, Land Warfare and Naval equipment developer are facing severe problems. Also these are quite expensive.

But they have chosen Rafael I think or may be they will go for Su-35s.

Not really. They have already placed initial orders to Saab.

Why would anyone buy that flying turkey? The Finns are much better off with some SU-35 or the Grippen NG. I'd suggest the gripen since I'm sure their military doctrine doesn't call for trans continental warfare. If they are only planning on protecting their own airspace I'm sure the Saab is all they need.but don'twaste money on the turkey. Its the worst "5th" gen fighter ever built.

In my opinion at the most the advance super hornet would cost at the most $52m compared to Gripen $60-65m.

I keep seeing the "flying turkey" comment, yet it keeps marching forward, with orders being finalized and new orders being placed. I think some are confusing technical hurdles and delays with failure. At the bleeding edge of technology, things don't always go as planned

Of course it is the "worst" 5th Gen fighter, since it is currently 2/2 as far as actual production, with 1/2 not being for sale.

Is the cost of the JSF over a Super Hornet necessary for Finland? I won't pretend to know enough about their mindset or needs to say one way or the other.

Pierre Sprey called it a flying turkey. If you bought the hype that's great. You're one of a select few. Those who are buying it really have no option at this point. Now tell me are countries expanding their orders or cutting them?

Facts and stats please?

If you have money to burn buy American, if you are on a budget, buy Chinese. If you want the best, buy German. If you're going to war, buy Russian.

Last time around, Finland was looking for something which could carry a large number of AA missiles.
The stealth capability of the F-35 is compromised if it has to carry missiles outside the internal bay,
so it might not fit the requirements.
