Rajah Sulayman is a hero of the Tagalog people on Luzon. They may be Catholic now because of the Spanish but they erected a statue of him in Manila and he is their national hero.

The Moro Muslims in the south have nothing to do with either Rajah Sulayman or the Tagalog, they are made out of different ethnic groups.

He did fight for his land against the colonialists. But Philipines was under the Arabized rulers only for 150years and was an Indianized kingdom for 500 years before that.Today's Philipinos who are very catholic may not prefer a muslim sounding name. Even if they need a change, it should be something neutral.

Rajah Matanda and Lakandula were both Muslim Tagalog Kings who fought against the Spanish with Rajah Sulayman and they both had native Tagalog names unlike Sulayman, but both of them chickened out in the end, surrendered to the Spanish and converted to Catholocism.

Rajah Sulayman was the only one who died fighting and thats why he is the only one who has a statue of him in Manila today. Its the only neutral name.

Arab Catholics use Sulayman too. It is not like the Jesus case where Arab Christians and Arab Muslims call him by different names, Yasu and Issa.

The name has to do with the hispanicized culture and not the religion. Although the Filipinos speak their own languages and not Spanish some of their names and some place names in their country are hispanicized. Some Filipinos have native surnames, with Spanish first names, others have both Spanish first names and surnames or western first names. But look at Mexico, their entire language is Spanish and they all use Spanish first and surnames but they call their country by a native name.

Many countries have different words for their countries in their local language. India has been known by that name for a long time and we accept it. Just like China being called Zhōngguó in Mandarin and Japan "Nippon".

The Muslim Moros and Animist Lumads on Maguindanao, the Animist Igorots on Luzon and the native tribals of Palawan were the only non hispanicized peoples in the Philippines. The Tagalogs and other peoples on Luzon and the Visayas were hispanicized and directly ruled by the Spanish and became Catholic, before Spanish rule, the Tagalogs were Muslims and Animist in the Kingdom of Maynila under Rajah Sulayman.

Because of the Moro population in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao, native Moro place names are used like Sultan Kudarat and Datu Piang.

Meanwhile Spanish origin names are used in the Tagalog and other areas like Lucena and Quezon.

Thankfully, Manila has kept its native name, derived from the Kingdom of Maynila.

They should think of renaming all the colonial era names as a clean up.

Changing names doesn't serve any good nor any bad, Nusantara is often used in Poetries to represent the beautiful and the memories of the glory past, doesn't mean that will do any good to the current time's country.

You see, Nusantara itself was also made of most part of Malayan peninsula, officialy changing "Indonesia" to "Nusantara" which derived from "Nusa Diantara" which means "Islands in between", is just the same with recalling all of those Majapahit's territories because Nusantara was a favorite word of Kertanegara, the King of Singashari kingdom, and then General Gadjah Mada, and the former President Soekarno when they invaded southern parts of South East Asia.

I think Indonesia is Okay, it is a political entity. Changing its name will not be making any better, instead, it has potentials to set the country ablaze if you know what I mean.
