The joint development of an Airborne Early Warning system by Embraer and India’s Defense Research Development Organization for the Indian Air Force is on track.

The first flight of the modified EMB-145 will take place in December or early next year, Orlando Jose Ferreira Neto, executive vice president for defense systems, told Aerospace DAILY.

The first fuselage was joined for India’s early warning aircraft in March for the first of three EMB-145s to be fitted with the Indian-designed antenna.

The Active Array Antenna Unit (AAAU), developed by DRDO’s Center for Airborne Systems, will then be integrated into the modified EMB-145 aircraft under the agreement, with certification to follow. Deliveries are expected to start in 2011.

While the challenges of integration have been many, “we are trying to mitigate risks,” Neto says. “Talks are on how we shall integrate. It’s a specific product with a specific objective.

“It’s a new system, a new platform. We’ll see what to do with it next because it is a state-of-the-art product — an update of platforms we have been selling,” Neto adds.

Brazil uses the Ericsson Erieye radar on the EMB-99 or EMB-145. Erieye is a long-range pulse Doppler radar, fitted with fixed active phased array antenna. The 9-meter long, 900-kg. antenna unit is mounted on the upper spine of the fuselage and gives the aircraft its distinctive appearance. Rather than a conventional rotodome antenna system, Erieye has a fixed, dual-sided and electronically scanned antenna mounted on top of the fuselage, placing less demand on aircraft size.

Pakistan took delivery of its second Saab-2000 Erieye aircraft in late April. The Indian Air Force is said to be looking at acquiring 20 more systems.

so 3 are on order so 20 more to come totaling to 23 :chilli: .....great going IAF this aircraft will be capable of IN FLIGHT REFUELING ...which the pakistani counterpart lacks currently

Wonderful, We have Been hearing a Lot about India's development in the defense field.... Now we can limit our Imports and Look into Exports if Any... And Its Indeed a great development for India....

Can any one give me more specifications On this comparing with others in its class???

the 3 you are mentioning is for PHALCONS and 3 more of these are to be inducted...these are mounted on IL-76 A-50 ...not on Embraer..

The EMBRAER jets are being inducted for DRDO made AEWC which are still in final stages of development..although less capable than phalcon(allegedly ) they will be great for airforce..

These are the Key features listed in Wiki

Key features

The DRDO has released an overview of the AEW & C aircraft.
The Radar will have an extended range mode against fighter aircraft, and will consist of two back to back AESA arrays, with an additional dedicated IFF array.
The ESM system will be able to track sources with a directional accuracy of 2 deg. RMS and a frequency accuracy of 1 MHz.
The ESM system will have complete 360 degree coverage in azimuth and have a database of up to 3000 emitters against which threats will be scanned.
Communication Support Measure system will analyse and record intercepted communications both inflight and post flight.
Self Protection Suite will have a passive Missile Approach Warning System, a Radar Warning Receiver and countermeasures dispensers. The SPS will be integrated with the ESM & CSM suite.
The aircraft will have Inflight refuelling.
The aircraft will have SATCOM, and datalinks to pass on ESM, CSM and radar data to ground stations and datalinks to pass on target information to fighters. More than 40 other aircraft will be datalinked together by the AEW & C aircraft.

Good going India. Congratulations to Indians on this one.

Thanks to CABS and LRDE.... and Please can any one clarify this doubt for me, Iam not a technical person so forgive me.... When We can create an AESA radar for this, why not for LCA tejas???

We can create AESA radars on our own..but we cant make one for TEJAS...

probably the same reason regarding nuke-reactor..we could make a reactor decades ago,but we could not make one for ARIHANTH tiill few years back.
The reason is miniaturization..
Miniaturization was the problem with ARIHANTH and is the problem for TEJAS imo//

I see, Hope we learn that trick soon... ;) , and Thanks for clarifying it...

congrats

indian will mount the israely AEW on it or own indian made?i mean indigious

This project was revived in 2004 after the crash of India's First AWACS in 1999, It was cancelled... This is the picture of Airavat Indias first AWACA whose Platform HS-748 was not supportive... Then in2004 We planned to make an even better radar on even better platform... so here we are...

This is the picture of Airavat, cancelled project
