Description:
A joint venture of NESPAK and Nayyar Ali Dada has been appointed as the project consultant for providing designing and contract management for Lahore Expo Centre.

According to a press release here today, one billion rupee worth project spreading over 400 canals would be a world class exhibition center under a public-private partnership company Expo Lahore Private Limited.

The master plan of the project has already been prepared and approved by the Board of Directors, which is headed by the federal minister of state and commerce and chairman export promotion bureau.

The master plan includes four exhibition halls, each with an area of 6,000 square meters, a warehouse, a congress centre with auxiliary conference rooms and a cafeteria. Spaces have also been earmarked for a modern hotel a high rise office building called technology tower and a shopping mall with entertainment facilities.

The building and structure of the Lahore Expo Centre will have a unique character comparable to the latest facilities of global standard. Site investigations have already been completed and the first of the three contracts will soon be awarded to commence by next month. The completion period of the project is 24 months, the spokesman added.

Contracts given for Expo Centre
LAHORE: M/s Shalimar Construction Company and M/s Guarantee Engineers have won the contracts for the construction of roads and infrastructure development and convention centre at the proposed Expo Centre in Lahore

According to a press statement, both the contractors have been mobilized and the development of Expo Lahore has begun. The management of Expo Lahore (Pvt) Limited (ELPL) is targeting to complete the project by December 2006, in order to host Expo 2007 in Lahore.

“We would definitely be able to demonstrate our cutting-edge infrastructure & world class service facilities at Lahore Expo Center, which meets the BOD expectations and would be able to successfully put Lahore on the global map for quality international trade fairs. All this will be possible because the management will be service & delivery driven,” Arif Mansur Khosa, COO of Expo Lahore (Pvt) Limited, said.

The government of Pakistan, realizing the importance of Expo Center in economic growth and prosperity of the region, in collaboration with the Punjab government has decided to set up this most modern international exhibition venue: Expo Lahore, in the fastest developing trade city of Lahore.

A joint stock company “Expo Lahore (Pvt.) Limited” (ELPL) was formed for the development of the state-of-the-art Expo Centre at Johar Town, Lahore.

Expo Lahore will be built on 400 Knals that will consist of four interlinked exhibition halls, each of about 62,000 square feet and a convention centre along with other ancillary buildings having a covered area of about 137,584 square feet.

LAHORE, May 22 (APP) Prime Minister addressing the inauguration ceremony said the facility of Expo Centre was first of its kind in Punjab adding it could be compared with any Expo centre in the world.

He hoped it would serve the nation in the years to come and would prove a gateway to the global trade besides helping the export sector.

He said the Expo Centre would provide opportunities to private sector and help overcome unemployment and poverty in the country.

“ International bilateral trade is very important for the economy of the country and Pakistan wishes to improve its bilateral trade,” he said.

Gilani said Pakistan was interested in bilateral trade not only with European Union but also with the US.

He said Pakistan already has trade relations with China, Sri Lanka and Iran.

The Prime Minister said more Free Trade Zones were in the pipeline in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa for improving international trade as well as to facilitate the exporters.

He said the government wanted to facilitate common man and it has taken tangible steps to eliminate poverty.

The Prime Minister said being a joint venture,the Lahore Expo Centre would provide more opportunities of cooperation between the federal and provincial governments.



Gilani said expo centres would also be built in Multan and Faisalabad in future since these cities have a major role in textile and handicrafts trade.

Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Acting Punjab Governor Rana Muhammad Iqbal, Federal Minister for Commerce and Trade Makhdoom Ameen Fahim and Federal Minister for Kashmir-Gilgit and Baltistan Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo were also present on the occasion.

Apparently, large Chinese building and investments going around free spaces near Lahore Expo Centre Johar Town.

We need a new airport at the side of Ravi River now.
