What's new

what iis the current status about the long range air defence missile deal

Greece also Bulgaria

Just how ignorant you are?

I admit I didn't know Greece had Russian anti aircraft batteries.
I remembered now why they have the S-300s.
It's from the Cyprus event. They got sent to Greece isn't it?

Why are you guys calling out mistakes so hatefully?
I made 2 mistakes.
I don't sit at home tracking US military aid mate. Frankly it's the last thing I'd look up.

As for the Greeko SAM thing, I just assumed a country wouldn't go and buy 2-4 different Long Range SAM systems from various countries. I don't even know how and why Greece still operates them when they have the Patriot PAC 2 and 3. It's broke so it decides to operate as many different systems as possible.

Ther are traditional allies of Russia ,especiallly Bulgaria ,ex-warsaw pact
The point is, Turkey will take the best offer regardless of who made it. It's the whole point in opening a tender.

You were the one who brought up the whole military aid thing and you were the one who claimed no NATO country had S300 missiles. If i was hateful why would i spend time here educating you?

They have their whole country under high-altitude missile protection how can this be bad? It has nothing to do with being broke. We are left with 1960'ies I-HAWK junk because of this political BS. Our security will not be neglected anymore. Be happy.

Dude I don't know how old you are (no disrespect) or what kind of dream world you live in but I'll make this very clear for you.

1. No one country has ever brought any piece of military gear on the sole count of it being the 'best' (country of manufacture being completely irrelevant, price irrelevant).

2. Cost effectiveness/available funds is again irrelevant when operating weapons systems. Buy all, shoot all, replace all. Money grows on trees and it never ends son.

Like I said you are obviously a late USSR/Russian junk fanboy and that's why you keep dissing out hate for me. I wouldn't be surprised if you stated that we should cancel the F-35/T-129 and just buy Indian MiG-21s and Russian Mi-24's.
You say the 'best' but that's just another word for Russian gear in your vocabulary.

The Patriot is operated by 5 plus NATO members and several allies.
S-300 2 countries.

Yeah, make this personal. You won't be winning any objective arguements any sooner.

utter bullsh*t

You don't know sh*t about me, and you are still trying to make this personal. No I'm not fond of soviet standards, I actually think that PAC3 is much more suitable for Turkey's current needs. I have over 1800 posts, if you've searched the forum you'd find my posts supporting the procurement of PAC3s but why bother?

I don't know you, I don't hate you I just don't value your opinion.

Just stop embarrassing yourself. S300 is being used by two NATO countries. Other than that it's much more widespread.

First of all stop being rude. We are supposed to talk about defence related topics without rudeness. You fuckin don't understand me. I also didn't say or force you to go with patriots. There are also french aster missiles on your tent, correct me if i'm wrong. I just meant that nato or US would want you to go with NATO made (PAC-3 or Aster) missiles, and cutting the defence sales between allied countries and russia? Wasn't it the main purpose of nato after the cold war? And I'm sure that s300 which i think is better than patriots won't recognize US made radar systems.

@DevilDog let's just not make this personal again okay? As i said before in numerous occasions all systems in this tender has pros and cons. Russian and Chinese systems' negative feature is that they aren't compatible with current NATO systems. But it's just a matter of software and they can be integrated with some certain effort. Greece did this.

What makes Aster 30 competitive is the Transfer of Technology but in some aspects it's an inferior system. PAC3 is way more likely because Turkey's opening the gap in terms of air superiority over her neighbors but ballistic missiles are still a threat. Obviously it's not an easy decision to make because each offer has it's merits. That's why it keeps getting delayed.

I'm not takin it personal. :) Some people thought that US will force turkey to go with patriots, and designate me as a supporter of this move :)

Sorry bro it wasn't just for you also for a few haters of my nation of myself

I'm not trolling sir.
I didn't know we stopped taking aid.
Hence the question mark.

Everything else I stated is correct.
America will not be happy to lose one of it's best customers to a rival not to mention a strategic friend.
America has sold us nearly all of our weapons systems in the past.

You are obviously a fan of USSR/Russian technology.

Exactly that is the problem. The US policy when it comes to selling equipment to us is like the weather. The interest groups in the US are controlling the congress and that makes them a very unreliable Ally (?). So why the hell should we continue buying US-made equipment.

@what Are you serious? You say that we're not reliable. I respect that. But do you know how we backed you and still back you in syria since you joined up to nato? 400 US Soldiers + 800 from other nato partners + 6 Patriot Batteries will be on border not to allow that bastard's missiles to fly over turkey. And they are ready to act on behalf of turkey. And you still call this unreliable. Come on man :)

We have common interests when it comes to Syria. Thats a different topic.

I'm talking about how the US-government has acted numerous times when it comes to acquiring your toys. And don't get me wrong I'm not one of those Islamists here that hate everything that is either "Zionist", US or both. I'm talking about drones and the Cyprus embargo. Thats not how you treat friends or allies.

The way I see it we have been more useful to you, than you have been to us. Now if the US offer for this deal is not competitive, I dont see a reason why we should not go for a different offer.

(That's good, if your not one of those islamists. Isn't it Ataturk on your profile pic? It also proves it. My ex told me a few things about him. She was the daughter of a turkish officer) back to topic, Hmm, I heard about those drone sales, i also remember that obama promised italy and turkey that he would approve it after the elections. (He started yesterday) sorry but i know nothing about this cyprus embargo. Can you explain to me please?

I'm talking about drones and the Cyprus embargo..
I agree with you about the drones. We are capable of making our own UAVs, ANKA isn't any lesser than MQ-1 Predator. But we've got emergency needs. So accepting Turkey into JSF program but refusing to sell her MALE UAVs just doesn't make any sense. There isn't anything hi-tech about MQ-1s.

But about Cyprus, if we go that back there are worse incidents. This was an open insult to Turkey.

Don't get me wrong I'm not one of those commies who protest NATO in every opportunity. True that Turkey protected Europe's flank during the cold war but it was also a time when Turkey needed NATO the most. We are one of the oldest members, we've been through a lot of crap but some errors was made, not from our side.
sorry but i know nothing about this cyprus embargo. Can you explain to me please?
Among a variety of sanctions against Turkey, in mid-1975 the US Congress imposed an arms embargo on Turkey for using American-supplied equipment during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974.[59]
