BSF protests shikar by Arab royals

Sources say members of the royal family hunt these birds with the help of dozens of specially-trained falcons. They are especially active at the international border adjoining Jaisalmer and Bikaner. SUVs equipped with modern communication gadgets chasing Houbara birds is a common sight.

For 2012-13, the Pakistan government has issued 12 permits for around 815 trained hunting falcons. It includes two permits for 135 falcons for the royal family of Saudi Arabia, five permits for 200 falcons for Bahrain's royal family, two permits for 250 falcons for UAE and three permits for 230 falcons for royal families of Qatar. The Pakistan government has given most of the hunting permits to the royalty and allotted them different desert areas for it. Each permit allows 100 birds to be hunted.

World's Favorite hunting Ground. Literally.

It is a disgrace that you allow foreigners to have Shikar in your country. We would never allow such a thing to happen. Smacks of Colonial era.

ACS Dubai gets falcons flying
December, 2009

Air Charter Service’s Dubai office recently saved some falcons the effort of flying, by chartering an aircraft for them.
Dmitriy Korshunov, Director ACS Dubai, explains: “The falcons were being flown out of the U.A.E. to Rahim Yar Khan in Pakistan for a hunting expedition. They received VIP service aboard the B737 aircraft, along with their trainers. Normally any live animals that we need to fly would go on a cargo aircraft, but these well-trained birds of prey sit still long enough!”
Air Charter Service specialise in cargo aircraft charter, commercial airliner charter and private jet charter, and have a long history of flying all types of animals including dolphins, elephants and race horses.

I've got friends who have permits to hunt across half of the world, from lions in South Africa to some rare bird in Argentina. It's a global industry, read up.

The houbara population has been reduced by more than 50%.

So only solution is they all die out or stop migrating to Pakistan.

It is not just this poor bird that Arab princes enjoy,

Think about Chinese and their fetish with rhino horns.

Just sad that in the age of blue pill and other treatments available, some people want to wipe out poor birds and endangered animals.

Sadly.

Their land , their law.. If this gives them some diplomatic brownie points with Arabs then why not..?

They can have that global industry. Not for us. No foreigner will hunt on our lands. That few millions dont matter.

That's absolutely fine, with a majority that is averse to the consumption of animals for food, India can afford to take that stance but seeing as hunting is a common sport in Pakistan, the matter is different.

Even Indian citizens can't hunt these days, like they used to do 20 or 30 years back.I used to follow my Dad and Chachas on the hunt for Asian antelope (Roaz) in the early 90's and there were no issues but after the Salman khan debacle you will pretty much end up in jail for a decade. But then again I think it's for the best.

Nope. This is not about a majority that is averse to the consumption of animals for food. Infact i think 50% of Indians are non vegetarians - including me.

Hunting as a sport should be banned. It was a common sport in India as well maybe 30 years back. We ended it. Preserving wildlife. And if at all it just has to be allowed, then atleast foreigners should not be allowed to come to your country for hunting. This is colonial or being subservient.
