If you're a white, Jewish man seeking part-time employment abroad, look no further than the Chinese company soliciting Foreign Policy's Isaac Stone Fish.

Mr. Fish reports receiving an email from a contact in China that outlines available positions at an unnamed company for Americans "to act as assistants in meetings with potential investors, and essentially act as the 'white face' to give some more credibility to the project."

While renting white foreigners is nothing new, this particular company specified some unusual prerequisites for its "White Guy Window Dressing." To wit:

The other requirement is that you must have some sort of background that Chinese people typically value. My contact is (deleted) and is slightly obsessed with Jewish people and thinks they are the smartest, so he naturally prefers this person to be Jewish. If he can't get someone Jewish, he would also like someone who went to a famous university -- Harvard, Yale, etc. Besides those 2 qualifications, I'm sure he'd be happy with someone who has some sort of connection to someone famous or important, or maybe someone who is really tall and handsome. Basically any characteristic that Chinese people are impressed by - he is looking for in this person. Of course it wouldn't hurt if this person was good-looking, well-dressed, etc. - I think you can get it. (deleted).

Talk about being enamored by white and Jewish people...quite contrary to the anti anglo meme they love to espouse here.

Don't know if this is true or not. Anecdotal evidence from such a biased source isn't really credible. Real polls with quantitative data show a low opinion of the groups you mentioned. Also Anglos aren't Jews. British Anglos are atheists, for one.

Coincidentally, the BBC source shows China being one of the most loved countries in the world, above US and EU.

^^^ understand the difference between White comma Jews . I did not claim Jews were Anglo. And what the hell does the topic at hand have to do with your charts?

the article doesn't necessarily show that Israel is hated or liked in China, rather the role ignorance or wrong knowledge is being used to make stereotypes which can lead to an atmosphere of anti-semitism.

Yes, I've experienced this sort of thing and know other Jews who have. ALL the Chinese students I've met know that China had Jewish communities that eventually were absorbed. Why they all learned about such an infinitesimal part of China's story I don't know. But they want us back. I've concluded that China wants to re-establish Jewish communities of its own.

They were never absorbed. China's Jewish communities have always maintained their distinctiveness. Most of them went back to Israel. Also you should be worried about Japan.

this white face to the business concept actually started off in Korea, then to China, but the jewish characteristic is surely a new thing.

Odd, you're the first Chinese to tell me that. All the Chinese Jews I know are converts. Save for the Shanghai community (old colonial enclave, you know) the few Jews of China completely lost their heritage by the 1980s due to generations of intermarriage coupled to the lack of rabbinical instruction.

I think you are talking about two different groups. Jewish people that migrated to China some 1000 years ago (In Kaifeng mainly) did get absorbed, some of them went to Israel after China opened up. The Jewish community that ran away from Nazi from Europe who settled in Shanghai all went to Israel after the country is established.

Almost. :azn:

The Chinese Nationalist Government

Abstract

In early 1939, Sun Ke, president of the Legislative Yuan, formulated a plan to settle European Jewish refugees in southwest China. At the same time, the German Jewish businessman Jakob Berglas and the politically active American Jewish dentist Maurice William presented plans to both the Nationalist and U.S. governments to transplant European Jews to China. The Nationalists have been harshly criticized for not confronting the invading Japanese with enough determination. However, their Jewish policy demonstrates that the Chinese Nationalists were determined not only to fight the war but also to use every possible tool, domestic and international, to win. It also illuminates how the “Jewish issue” complicated the relationships between China, Japan, Germany, and the United States before and during World War II.

Yes. No, I didn't know that any of the Kaifeng community emigrated to Israel.

I am curious, however. Us religious Jews get treated like royalty when we visit. Why does China want Jews to return or convert Chinese citizens to Judaism?

Some from Kaifeng did go to Israel, I've read news on how they managed to learn Hebrew and made a living etc.

I am not aware of that current China want Jews to return or any conversion of Chinese citizens to Judaism. As I posted above, before the end of World War II the then government did want to set a Jewish communisty in Yunan (Very nice place).

Are they really doing this?

And I thought Judaism doesn't take converts, Is that incorrect ?

Chinese businesses are looking for Jews probably because they are one of the sharpest minds when it comes to business..

The news is a bit hard to believe though as an average Chinese cannot tell Jewish people from other whites unless he is Albert Einstein.
